Full time / Temporary Position - Summer Internship Available 


Seeking college students who need to fulfill an internship requirement to graduate.  


 DEFINITION

The Quality and Engineering Intern is responsible for providing service in support of military and nuclear contracts by focusing on weld processes, product testing, inspection, non-destructive testing and general processing of advanced products throughout the operation. Specific projects will align with the intern’s particular field of study to benefit both the student and the company in working on various projects.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED

This position reports directly to the Weld Engineer


SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position does not provide direct supervision to any group of employees.

Requirements

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

NOTE: An employee assigned to this title shall perform a majority, but may not perform all, of the duties listed in this job description.  Conversely, minor level duties performed on the job may not be listed and the incumbent will work cross-functionally within the QA department as needed to support training and general capacity assistance within the department.  

  • Work      in a safe manner with a goal of zero harm. 
  • Ensure      compliance with safety and environmental rules and regulations. 
  • Read      and understand process sheets and shop cards.
  • Perform      necessary non-destructive testing (NDT) to include visual (VT), liquid      penetrant (PT) and magnetic particle (MT) (in-process inspections only –      not requiring certifications)
  • Aid      in managing weld and testing projects.

· Create weld maps as required.

· Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. 

· Ensure compliance with safety and environmental rules and regulations. 

· Ensure proper execution of policies and procedures within areas of responsibility.

· Maintain clean and organized workstation.

  • Must      have good attendance and be reliable. 
  • All      other duties as assigned.

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

· Knowledge of how to operate a personal computer and basic computer skills.

· Knowledge of non-destructive testing (existing or previous certification in VT, PT or MT preferred)

· Knowledge of welding and material related testing requirements.

· Basic understanding of engineering drawings to include GD&T

· Ability to learn and understand metal casting processes. 

· Ability to analyze information and report test results. 

· Ability to promote process improvement, develop standards, and manage processes. 

· Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and senior managers, as well as employees. 

· Ability to gain understanding of plant equipment and processes.

· Ability to express ideas and communicate orally and in writing.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.   American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication

Active Listening – giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times

Coordination – Adjusting actions in relation to others’ actions

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

(a)             High School education or equivalent

(b)            Currently enrolled in a university, college or technical school with focus on engineering related studies in the metals industry 


LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability      to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability      to speak and communicate effectively with other employees and leadership      throughout the organization. 
  • The      ability to manage schedules, consider resources and communicate these      needs effectively throughout the organization. 

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Telephone, personal computer (including word processing and other specialized software), metrology and various testing equipment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk or hear, ascend and descend stairs, ramps, etc., use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.  

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee must be able to walk or stand for up to twelve (8) hours.

  • While performing      the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving      mechanical parts.
  • The noise level in      the work environment is usually moderate and can be loud. 
  • The temperature in      the work environment may be cold in the winter and hot in the summer. 
  • Employees are      required to wear proper steel toe shoes, safety glasses and proper hearing      protection while working.
