What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Billing Specialist position at ASSOCIATED OPHTHALMOLOGISTS?
We are a Des Moines based ophthalmology clinic, seeking a motivated individual who is willing to learn various aspects of our practice. Applicants should be willing to cross train and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

- You must demonstrate ability to consistently meet work schedule demands in the clinic.
- Maintain awareness of safety in carrying out duties and responsibilities.
- Adhere to universal precautions and infection control policies and procedures.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and use discretion in patient interactions.
- Promote a positive, professional image of the clinic.
- Promote positive interpersonal relationships with patients and co-workers.
- Maintain awareness of workload of co-workers and offer assistance as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Post office and surgical charges
- Post insurance and patient personal payments
- Bill insurance companies and patients
- Follow-up on unpaid insurance claims
- Follow-up on unpaid patient statements
- Receive and respond to billing calls
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Good communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills Ability to adapt to changes in the workplace, duties and office policies. General computer knowledge and ability to adapt to current office software. EDUCATION High school diploma or GED Knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding.
