What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surface Prep Technician position at Astrix Technology Group (NIH)?
We are seeking a Surface Preparation Technician to join our driven production team. This is an amazing opportunity to work with a team that is responsible for cleaning specialty piping and tubes prior to chemical bathing processes for the oil field.
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm w/flexibility to work OT based on production needs
- Pay: $18/hr.
- Terms: Contract to Hire
As a Surface Preparation Technician, you will assist in all tasks involved in cleaning operations; these tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
Key Duties:
- Preparing the cleaning area for daily operations: Obtaining, making accessible and verifying the proper working condition of all necessary cleaning equipment and supplies
- Checking and adjusting the cleaning solutions to ensure they are at proper temperature
- Ensuring all safety equipment is clean and in proper working condition
- Loading the racks for production
- Preparing each load for cleaning
- Cleaning each load for production in accordance with Company Procedures and Work Instructions
- Ensuring all equipment is stocked and in proper working order, including hoses, brushes, air drills, etc.
- Maintaining a clean, organized and safe work area
- Cleaning out and refilling the acid activation tank, alkaline cleaner tanks, brass activator rinse (as necessary)
- Assisting platers in removing finished parts from the racks after plating when needed
- Assisting in stripping parts requiring re-work (as identified by the Final Inspection Department)
- Maintaining constant communication with Cleaning Department Lead and co-workers regarding cleaning operations, progress toward goals, spills, repairs and maintenance needs, material shortages or when quality of work does not meet expectations
- Report any safety issues (to include accidents, near misses, spills and any behavior of co-workers that may result in injury or destruction of company property) to the Safety Manager
- Any other duties assigned by the Cleaning Department Lead or Production Manager
Education/Experience:
- Must be able to read and write English
- Must be capable of: (100-400 times per shift)
- Lifting and carrying of parts (with a partner) that may weigh as much as 150 lbs. (average parts weigh 40-60 lbs.)
- Stooping, climbing, or crouching with some frequency
- Repetitive movements (grasping, pushing, and pulling)
- Working independently
- Must be able to be on your feet all day (standing or walking)
- Must be able to read and understand hazardous labels on chemical containers
- Must be able to operate a forklift and overhead hoist/crane
- Reliable attendance and punctuality are a must
- Ability to work in a team
- Must have full knowledge of safety rules and procedures and be capable of instructing other employees
- Ability to work overtime, as needed (up to 10 hour shifts with little notice to complete production)
- Visual inspection of parts for small defects
