What are the responsibilities and job description for the Die Caster Specialist position at Astronics?
Astronics-PECO designs, certifies, manufactures, and sells a wide range of products to commercial, government, and military markets throughout the world. Our highly engineered interior and structural aerospace products are supplied to the largest aircraft manufacturers and are installed in aircraft around the globe, and our military products are used in critical national defense applications. The Max-Viz enhanced visions systems (EVS) are designed and certified for use as an improvement to safety by a vast array of airplanes, helicopters, and unmanned-aerial-vehicles in the commercial, government, and military marketplace. PECO-Controls are well established temperature control devices designed for applications where high quality is a must, such as the hospitality industry, commercial cooking, and other critical applications.
We are looking for two Die Cast Specialists to support our casting team. In this role you will work directly with the machines and team members to produce quality parts to customer specifications and meet customer demand. To be successful in this position you will need experience troubleshooting Zinc and Aluminum casting machines, be familiar with the process of set up and change outs of dies and understand metal sampling operations.
One position will be on Day shift, 7am-3:30pm and one on modified swing shift, 1pm-9:30pm Monday – Friday.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Train Die Cast Trainees, Die Casters, and Senior Die Casters.
- Seek to improve die casting process to improve quality and cost effectiveness.
- Accurately maintain setup sheets, inspection reports and records.
- Setup and run all casting machines, trim presses, and auxiliary equipment unsupervised.
- Setup and load correct programs for robots. Identify program errors.
- Able to troubleshoot casting defects and adjust process with minimal help from Engineer
- Train Trainees and Die Casters how to bail and change pots.
- Collaborate with Engineering to develop new die casting process.
- Monitor and maintain metal hygiene at direction of Engineering.
- Performs metal sampling operations as directed by quality requirements.
- Recommended improvements to die casting machines, trim presses, and auxiliary equipment to Process Engineer and Area Supervisor.
- Work closely with Toolroom to initiate tool repairs as needed. Writes TROs.
- Train Senior Die Casters on how to troubleshoot casting defects and adjust process unsupervised.
- Train Casting employees on die configuration changes and insert changes.
- Monitor operation of all casting machines, trim presses, and auxiliary equipment.
- Monitor health of pots and recommend replacement timeline.
- Setup, load, and troubleshoot programs for robots. Identify program errors and reprogram as required.
- Assist in development of new Work Instructions.
- Use measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
- Retains working knowledge of NADCA guidelines.
- Attends Quality Manual Standards Training and applies Quality Standards accordingly.
- Observes safety and security procedures; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly.
- Operate a variety of forklifts and other material moving equipment and tools.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 5 years of die casting experience
- Experience troubleshooting programs on casting machines
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardization situations. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Ability to perform basic math computations such as add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
