We are hiring an Activities Director to join our dynamic care team at Heatherwood Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Newport!
This is a full-time, department head role with weekly pay. Heatherwood is a 114-bed skilling nursing facility located at 398 Bellevue Avenue.

The director oversees the operations of the activities department including coordination of events and programs, staffing, and resident activities.

The director oversees the operations of the activities department including coordination of events and programs, staffing, and resident activities.
Experience & Education:
- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Must have at least one (1) year experience in training or directing group activities.
- Must meet one of the following criteria:
- Eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities
- professional by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990
- Has 2 years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, one of which was full-time in a therapeutic activities program
- Is a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant
- Has completed a training course approved by the State
- Assists in plans and provisions of patient care by visiting residents regularly to evaluate needs.
- Oversee recreation department staffing and recruitment.
- Plan, organize, and implement resident activities and event programming.
- Document and report to the nursing department any unusual or significant findings.
- Encourage residents to take part in activities of daily living that will stimulate his/her potential, physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.
- Spend duty time with residents rather than with other facility staff.
- Assisst with and follow through on the establishment of resident care goals within the framework of the entire therapeutic team.
- Participate in public relations, media coverage, marketing efforts and volunteer activities.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
- Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise professional and non-professional personnel.
- Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
- Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing policies and procedures.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
- Must participate in continuing education and inservice training.
