YMCA Camp Wiyaka Waterfront Director

The Waterfront Director is responsible for assigning staff to the weekly lifeguard schedule. They will teach swim lessons, make the waterfront activity schedule and facilitate those activities. The Waterfront Director is a resource to the Lifeguards and will provide assistance and coaching when needed. When there are no immediate concerns to be addressed, the Waterfront Director should be interacting with campers in an effort to facilitate the building of camper to camper friendships. The behavior and appearance of the Waterfront Director should model the behavior we desire from the staff members and be consistent with the values and mission of the YMCA.
The Waterfront Director is a member of the Senior Staff team and as such will be involved in helping with various logistical tasks around camp. These include but are not limited to: Planning and facilitating All-Camp events, assisting with meal time procedures, nighttime patrols, taking roll call and supervising junior staff members. The
Senior Staff team is the example that the staff look to and as such will be held to the highest standards of work ethic and professionalism.
Qualifications Duties
➤At least 21 years old at start of staff week
➤Schedule lifeguard placement at activities
➤Clean criminal background check
➤Ensure the physical and emotional safety of the
➤Clear drug screening campers and staff
➤Current lifeguard certification
➤Assist in daily camp logistics
➤A desire to improve
➤Monitor and coach Lifeguards
➤Ability to interact positively with all age levels
➤Ensure all program areas are well kept
➤Ability to facilitate activities
➤Facilitate weekly rescue drills
➤In good health (physical from doctor required)
➤Various other duties as assigned
Reports Physical Aspects
The Waterfront Director reports to the Camp Director.
➤Ability to communicate orally and in writing
Program Counselors, General Counselors and CITs
➤Visual and auditory ability to identify hazards report to the Senior Staff team members.
➤Ability to respond appropriately to an emergency
➤Activities may require: Prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking, running, hiking, climbing or stretching and prolonged exposure to outdoor elements.
➤Hand eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate equipment
➤Ability to lift 50 lbs
➤Long work hours with minimal breaks
