Supporting the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Management, in Washington DC. We have an immediate opening for an on-site IT System Administrator with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in supporting and optimizing the performance of both virtual and physical servers, operating systems, hardware, and software.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting and optimizing the performance of Windows Server (virtual and physical) environments.
- Coordinating all activities related to the Windows server and workstation operating system functionality, backups, maintenance, patching, and end of life management.
- Providing IT development and support services, including modernization and enhancements to various software applications and data warehouses.
- Conducting security hardening, monitoring, maintenance, patching, upgrading, auditing, backups, and troubleshooting of hardware and VM/OS environments
- Maintaining network switches and routers, including upgrading firmware and software.
- Creating and maintaining comprehensive system documentation.
Additionally, the role involves:
- Demonstrating proficiency in Network Security, Network Maintenance, Security Monitoring, Analysis & Response, Testing & Troubleshooting, Incident Response and Disaster Recovery Planning and Execution, and IT Asset Inventory Control.
Responsibilities:
• Deploy, configure, and manage Microsoft Windows Server virtual and physical machines
• Upgrade legacy systems, maintaining life cycle efforts
• Knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy Objects and administer Active Directory Domain Services, Active Directory Certificate Services, DNS, Group Policy, File/Print Services
• Manage VMware VDI environment, Maintain vCenter servers
• Knowledge of computer networking and networking issue resolution
• Manage and maintain Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) systems and integration
• Create and maintain configuration management documentation for all systems
• Create and maintain job/task and standard operating procedures
• Ensure the development and maintenance of system security plan and supporting documentation to support the Assessment & Authorization process
• Diagnose and troubleshoot software and hardware problems and help customers/end users install applications and programs
• Utilize remote desktop connectivity to provide immediate support and manage servers
• Provide remote or desk side computer support to users, answer phone calls and email messages providing problem resolution
• Troubleshoot any network issues between the application and devices connected to the network
• Work within a team environment to resolve problems
• Provide customer and system owners timely status and project updates
• Other tasking, as required to support customer requirements
Required Skills/Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in client-server and service desk environments
• Attention to detail and strong interpersonal, communication, training, and organizational skills, and ability to work effectively in a team
• Minimum two years VMware ESXi experience
• Ability to multi-task and adapt to changes quickly
• Technical awareness; ability to match resources to technical issues appropriately
• Service awareness of organization's key IT services for which support is being provided
• Understanding of support tools, techniques, and how technology is used to provide IT services
• Interpersonal skills; such as communication skills, active listening, and customer-care
• Must be well organized, a good communicator, able to effectively prioritize tasks, and manage small projects from concept to production
• Must be a highly self-motivated individual with the ability to work in a fast moving environment, independent and self-sufficient
• Able to receive an assigned task and see it through to completion with minimal supervision
• Must be eligible to obtain and retain an HSPD12 Credential
