Job Summary:
The Vineyard Crew Leader, also known as a Mayordomo, plays a key role in vineyard management by coordinating daily operations, supervising crew members, and ensuring all vineyard tasks are performed to meet production and quality standards. This position requires hands-on involvement, leadership skills, and a strong understanding of vineyard practices.
Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Leadership
· Direct and supervise vineyard crews in all field activities, such as pruning, planting, irrigation, thinning, and harvesting.
· Train workers in safe and efficient techniques for vineyard tasks.
· Monitor work progress and ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Task Planning and Execution
· Organize and assign daily tasks to the crew based on seasonal needs and operational priorities.
· Ensure work schedules are met while maximizing productivity.
· Troubleshoot issues or delays and adapt plans accordingly.
- Quality Assurance
· Inspect work to ensure compliance with company standards, agricultural practices, and safety protocols.
· Address any deficiencies in crew performance or quality of work.
- Communication and Coordination
· Serve as a liaison between vineyard management and field crews.
· Report progress, challenges, and observations to vineyard managers or supervisors.
· Maintain clear communication with team members to ensure alignment and morale.
- Recordkeeping
· Document hours worked, tasks completed, and equipment usage.
· Maintain logs of pesticide applications, irrigation schedules, or other vineyard activities as required.
- Equipment and Safety
· Oversee proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
· Enforce compliance with workplace safety regulations, providing guidance as needed.
- Problem Solving
· Identify and address challenges related to vineyard conditions, pest management, or crew performance.
Qualifications:
· Bilingual: English and Spanish.
· Proven experience in vineyard work, with knowledge of viticulture practices.
· Leadership or supervisory experience, preferably in agricultural settings.
· Ability to motivate and manage teams effectively.
· Familiarity with agricultural equipment and maintenance.
· Basic recordkeeping and organizational skills.
· Physical ability to perform vineyard tasks and work outdoors in varying conditions.
Work Conditions:
· Outdoor environment with exposure to varying weather conditions.
· Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
· Seasonal workload variations, including possible overtime during harvest or peak periods.
