ATTIC stands for "Alternatives to Traditional Incarceration of Citizens." We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to developing interventions that enable individuals to avoid unnecessary levels of incarceration, enhance community safety and provide a setting that facilitates treatment and the reduction of recidivism. We operate residential and other correctional programs throughout Wisconsin that provide case management, counseling and treatment groups, vocational training and high-risk client monitoring and supervision.
The Human Resource Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices.
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
- Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to benefits, and leaves; minor disciplinary matters;
- Assisting with disputes and investigations; performance
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Participates and administers the development and implementation of recruitment strategies and staffing levels, applicant evaluation, interview and select process, and related tasks.
- Collaborates with department managers to identify and draft detailed and accurate job descriptions and hiring criteria.
- Collaborates with the hiring manager and/or other human resource staff during the offer process, understanding and following contract salary ranges, incentives, start dates, and other pertinent details
- Provides back-up support to the HR Recruiter and HR team when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Work Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development or closely related field preferred.
- Minimum of two to three years of experience in Human Resources.
- Certifications for HR Professionals (PHR, SPHR, CP, or SCP) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws.
- Valid Wisconsin drivers license, with good driving record.
- Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish, maintain, and coordinate effective working relationships with all levels of staff, vendors, and the general public.
- Evidence of excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Additional experience working with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
- Ability to maintain the utmost confidentiality of all agency information.
- Self-motivated; ability to work with minimal supervision.
- High degree of demonstrated decision making and problem solving.
- Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to interactions with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to exercise sound decisions and judgment.
- Limited travel required.
