Summary:

An Order Picker warehouse person must be able to perform a wide variety of tasks. This person must be able to count, read, match numbers, have basic computer skills, be able to operate simple machinery and drive a forklift. Order Picker organizes, sorts, and checks for inaccuracies; prepares and stages all supplies shipped to the hospital and offsite facilities. The Material Transportation Technician is responsible for the distribution, storage and retrieval of supplies, linen, and equipment from the Warehouse to the hospital and to the hospital offsite facilities. Drivers are also often expected to help with the loading and unloading of their products, keep logs of their activities and make sure their vehicles are maintained in good working order. The position requires the ability to communicate and work closely and efficiently with others in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Listed below are the typical duties and responsibilities of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

• Accurately pull items for work orders and inspect all items pulled and stocked. Verify the proper identification of items when pulling from and stocking to shelves and match that id to other items in the same location.
• Follow daily inventory control procedure and participate in inventory counts when needed.
• Control quality by properly identifying, inspecting, and cleaning items prior to shipment.
• Be capable of performing basic equipment maintenance and housekeeping duties including organizing and keeping the work area clean and safe.
• Work closely with management to learn and to develop the best practices and procedures and find ways to increase productivity.
• Communicate with supervisors, warehouse department employees and other departments any issue related to performing the duties of this position.
• Understand OSHA regulations as related to day-to-day operations of the Warehouse.
• Use a computer to identify items and locations.

• Operate a variety of machines and equipment such as forklifts, manual and electric pallet jacks, hand trucks, carts and rolling stock ladders.
• The truck is loaded in a safe manner with maximum use of cargo space, securing loads with straps or cargo bars. The truck is unloaded at the hospital and other facilities and goods are placed on the loading dock or designated location.
• Deliveries are made according to an established schedule to the offsite facilities. Delivery is made to the correct department and placed in the designated delivery or storage area.                                                                                                                                           
• Priority shipments are communicated to co-workers at the hospital and off-site facilities for immediate delivery.

• Is courteous and professional toward clients and staff. Follows established dress code.                                                                                      
• Passengers may not be transported in a company vehicle without prior authorization. Company vehicles are not used for personal use. Consistently completes daily assignments.                                                                                           
• Responsibly uses cellular phone and fuel credit card. Pager is always available during shift. Messages and information relayed to appropriate personnel. Completes delivery log daily.               
• Empty carts, pallets, barrels and returned goods are delivered to the

       warehouse.                           

• Keeps the vehicle neat and clean. Has vehicle checked according to maintenance schedule. Reports all incidents immediately. Keeps safety supplies in van. Keeps manager informed of problems.
• Is familiar with hospital policy, safety, and infection control manuals.  

• Work closely with management to learn and to develop the best practices and procedures and find ways to increase productivity. Suggests appropriate improvements to routes.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Has the ability to take direction and work independently with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications:

• Good oral and written communication skills, including basic computer skills, legible handwriting and the ability to distinguish between similar item codes.
• Ability to work with individuals and groups of people.
• Methods and techniques of handling equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Good driving skills
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record
• Must be capable of working in an environment in which demands and priorities change rapidly.
• Be able to drive a stand-up forklift.
• Good work and attendance record.

Education and/or Experience:

• High School graduate

Mathematical Skills:

• Ability to perform accurate inventory counts.

Reasoning Ability:

• Ability to prioritize and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations on a day-to-day basis where limited standardization may exist.
• Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities:

• Provide information and assistance to staff members in a helpful, courteous, and timely manner.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Skill to operate material handling equipment such as hand carts, pallet jacks (manual and motorized) ladders, cardboard bailer etc. for successful job performance.
