Are you passionate about rock climbing and eager to share your expertise with others in one of the most stunning natural settings in the United States? At Ausable Chasm, we’re looking for Rock Climbing Guides to lead safe, exciting, and memorable climbing experiences for guests of all skill levels. This role offers the chance to combine technical climbing proficiency, guest interaction, and teamwork in a dynamic outdoor environment.
Your Mission:
Provide expert guidance, prioritize safety, and create unforgettable rock-climbing experiences while contributing to the success of the Adventure Program.
What You’ll Do:
Lead & Facilitate Rock Climbing Adventures:
- Independently guide climbing trips for groups of up to six participants, ensuring their safety and enjoyment.
- Educate participants on climbing techniques, safety protocols, and equipment use in a supportive and engaging manner.
- Set up and tear down climbing routes, including anchor systems, with precision and safety in mind.
- Perform safety checks on equipment, anchors, and systems throughout the day.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other guides and the Adventure Program Director to ensure smooth operations and exceptional guest experiences.
- Participate in training and mentoring of new climbing guides as needed.
- Support other areas of the Adventure Program during high-demand periods.
Maintain Safety Standards:
- Stay current on rescue techniques, anchor building, and high-angle climbing safety practices.
- Conduct regular gear maintenance and report any equipment issues to the Adventure Program Director.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, risk management practices, and company policies.
Administrative & Operational Duties:
- Attend regular safety and training sessions to improve skills and knowledge.
- Participate in progress evaluation meetings to provide feedback and enhance program quality.
- Assist with additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned to support the Adventure Program’s success.
What We’re Looking For:
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Extensive outdoor multi-pitch climbing experience with a minimum of two years of experience.
- Proficiency in anchor building, haul systems, and high-angle rescue techniques.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask and prioritize in dynamic environments.
- Excellent decision-making and risk management skills.
- Professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
- Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to variable workloads.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- AMGA Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) certification or higher.
- Proven ability to manage and oversee large groups while maintaining a positive group dynamic.
- Exceptional communication skills to effectively engage with guests and team members.
- Confidence in technical climbing skills and rescue techniques.
- Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or similar advanced certifications.
