What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cat Adoption Events Specialist position at Austin Pets Alive!?
- Liaise with local businesses to develop ongoing partnership opportunities in collaboration with marketing and development.
- Find venues that can host events for our specialty populations and promote specialty and lifesaving programs by creating more exposure for these populations of cats at events.
- Work with the marketing team to promote all upcoming events monthly events and ensure schedule alignment.
- Build and manage a volunteer events team.
- Increase accessibility of adoption locations across Austin and surrounding areas.
- Work with programs to optimize opportunities at events: i.e. recruiting new fosters and promoting adoptions at various onsite APA! locations.
- Work with Marketing team to design advertising and marketing templates.
- Plan 6-8 events per month offering opportunities in N, E, S, and W Austin locations.
- Represent APA! in advertising and events.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Attend and participate in all required training sessions and meetings
- Maintain open and consistent communication with the Cat Adoption & Foster Success Manager.
- Partner with Volunteer, Foster, and Adoption teams to collaborate on events.
- Oversee events volunteer programs and manage volunteers interested in your department on an ongoing basis
- Able to react to change productively and perform other related duties as assigned
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Able to work in a high volume, fast-paced, high-stress environment

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Excellent time management skills and ability to work successfully remotely or in an otherwise independent setting.
- Basic understanding of cat behaviors and medical needs.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize competing tasks appropriately, delegating as needed.
- Knowledge of and passion for the No Kill movement and its aims in Austin and throughout the region
- Support the mission of Austin Pets Alive! To help us rescue more at-risk cats by driving adoptions and opening up more foster homes
- Preferred: 1-2 years experience directly handling cats in a shelter, rescue, or clinic setting
- Preferred: 1-2 years of employee or volunteer management experience
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work around animals (including diseased, injured, and/or potentially aggressive animals), loud noises, chlorine or other chemicals, and inclement weather
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to focus in a loud and busy environment despite distractions
- Must be able to comfortably interact with cats of various health levels, including cats who may carry zoonotic diseases such as ringworm, scabies, intestinal parasites, etc.
- Able to be on your feet for multiple hours of the day
- Must be able to visually observe people and animals from up to 150 feet away
- Ability to hear normal speech at close contact and shouting up to 150 feet away
- Must be able to walk around shelter as needed - uneven ground, keeping a safe distance from dogs and handlers
- Will sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, stoop, bend, stretch, squat, kneel, grasp, grip, put fingers together firmly and reach above and below shoulder level, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds and push and pull up to 50 pounds for situations of moving supplies and setting up for events; repetitively use hands to operate computers; flex the neck upward and downward; twist the neck and the waist.

- APA! Cat Adoption Center at Tarrytown, 3108 Windsor Road Austin, TX 78703
- Some remote work and travel to offsite locations will be necessary
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Standard office environment, with exposure to environmental conditions that include working with and near animals
- After-hours and weekend work as required to support the program’s needs
- Work is normally performed inside; some outside work is required
- Exposure to unpleasant odors and noises.
- Rapid pace with exposure to potential hazards including animal waste, disinfectants, and high levels of noise
- Potential for animal bites and scratches and diseases that can be transmitted from animals to people
