The International branch supports the Commission in its engagement with international partners to:
- Contribute to whole-of-government efforts to support partners to strengthen their public sector institutions, policies and practices, with a view to establishing deep, enduring and increasingly close links with partner officials and organisations.
- Contribute to the development of global best practice by collaborating with partners on emerging challenges.
- Ensure the Commission remains at the forefront of best practice public administration by scanning the international environment and marshalling global experience, expertise and best practice to inform the Commission’s policies, practices and procedures.
About the Role
We are seeking an Assistant Director to support the Commission’s international engagement activities, including delivery of programs across the Indo-Pacific to improve public sector leadership and governance internationally and for Australia. This work is partially funded through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and contributes to Australia’s foreign policies.
The role of Assistant Director is to manage projects within the Commission’s wider international program, ensuring that activities are delivered in compliance with legislative, financial and administrative frameworks, government decision-making processes and agency guidelines and regulations. The position manages a small team and reports to the Executive Director, International.
You will work in partnership with foreign government and stakeholders to plan and deliver activities. The role will involve:
- Sharing information and advice on public sector development and strategic human resource management.
- Contributing to the development of engagement strategies for various countries and delivery of outcomes against those strategies.
- Designing and delivering activities to strengthen public sector administration across the Indo-Pacific region, and others as required.
- Engaging with a range of senior stakeholders in an international aid environment.
- Program management work, including effective resource management, strategic planning, financial management, and monitoring and reporting on performance.
- Provide secretariat support to steering committees in support of governance arrangements
- Providing high level policy advice to the Commission’s Executive through submissions, briefs and reports.
Mandatory requirement

Successful applicants will be required to undergo the process to obtain and maintain, or continue to hold the required security clearance level for the role as indicated. All Commission staff are required to have a minimum Baseline security clearance prior to commencement.
Successful applicants will be required to undergo a mandatory National Criminal History check as part of the pre-employment eligibility checks.
