Company Overview
Based in Charleston, South Carolina. Company is a privately-owned, diversified holding company with several operating business units; primarily focused on consumer finance and real estate (lending, investment and development) has an immediate opening for an Accountant with a minimum of 2 years of experience to join their team.
This position handles a large volume of General Ledger Reconciliations and Journal Entries. To be considered, must have excellent working knowledge of all accounting processes with a proficiency in Excel and double entry accounting.
Description of Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
· Compiles and analyzes financial information in preparation for entry into various financial statements and accounting reports, makes appropriate journal entries for recording in the general ledger by checking calculations, reviewing basis for figures, and balancing and reconciling figures.
· Analyze general ledger activity and reconcile balance sheet accounts on a daily/weekly basis
· Performs bank reconciliations ensuring accuracy.
· Incumbent will perform specialized tasks necessary for their specific functional focus area.
· Completes various financial, accounting, administrative, and other reports and analysis, and performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.
· Assist accounting leaders with completing pre-close and close activities, answer questions, provide support, and ensure timely completion of accounting processes for on-time Company reporting.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
· Must be results driven with attention to details/deadlines and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
· Individuals needs to understand both bank and account reconciliations and be able to solve discrepancy issues.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) is preferred, and strong Excel skills at an intermediate level are required. Knowledge of pivot tables, macros and experience working with large data files is a plus
· Be able to work individually as well as collaborate with others to solve problems, complete tasks and meet deadlines.
· A combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the application and usage of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
· Critical thinking skills to investigate and explain general ledger transactions.
· Understanding of loan accounting (principal and interest calculations) and real estate would be helpful, but not required.
Required Skills & Experience
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Management or similar discipline and/or equivalent experience is highly preferred.
· Fundamental knowledge of GAAP.
· Experience with current computer accounting programs and reporting tools.
· Knowledge of software integration programs- specifically import and export of date files using template.
