General Accountant
Our Grand Rapids corporate office is seeking a talented and ambitious person to work as the General Accountant. The general accountant is responsible for performing a wide range of accounting tasks, including recording financial transactions, reconciling balance sheet accounts, reviewing month end financials for reasonableness, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing processes and annual audit, essentially overseeing the day-to-day financial recordkeeping of a company.
Key responsibilities of a general accountant include:
· Data entry and posting: Recording financial transactions into the general ledger by posting journal entries for revenue, expenses, assets, liabilities, and equity.
· Account reconciliation: Verifying the accuracy of financial records by reconciling bank statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable and all Balance Sheet balances.
· Month-end closing: Performing necessary accounting procedures to finalize financial records at the end of each month.
· Process Definitions and Improvements: Digging into current processes to determine more efficient ways to account for the business. Writing or editing Accounting Standard Operating Procedures.
· Auditing support: Providing documentation and assistance to external auditors during financial audits.
· Analysis and reporting: Analyzing financial data to identify trends and provide insights to internal customers.
· Compliance: Ensuring adherence to relevant accounting standards and regulations.

Skills and Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- 3 years of General Accounting experience
- Dependable individual with excellent attendance
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Great Plains, FAS, Power BI, Excel)
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
