Title: Aircraft Mechanic Helper

Location: Huntsville, Alabama

Position Status: Contract. Potential for contract to hire.

Work Schedule: Regular hours are Monday - Friday between the hours of 7:30 am - 4:00 pm or as adjusted for operational commitments.

Brief Job Description

The Aircraft Mechanic Helper shall perform aircraft maintenance under the supervision of an A&P mechanic. Duties shall include maintenance, preventative maintenance, inspections, repair and or alterations of civil registered aircraft. Duties will include but not limited to, disassembling, cleaning, prepping, of aircraft parts and components. The Aircraft Mechanic Helper shall work directly with more skilled personnel to perform a variety of routine tasks.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assist in the disassembly of aircraft or major components for repair, overhaul, or modification.
  • Perform routine duties such as furnishing materials, tools and supplies to mechanic; lifting and holding materials in place during operations; cleaning work areas and machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Observe work processes and after appropriate instruction, select tools and supplies for proper usage to assist in repair of major components or aircraft structure or systems.
  • Use OEM manuals, blueprints, sketches or approved technical data to understand the functions of the parts or units and discuss with lead personnel how to plan and carry out work i.e., components removal and finding faulty parts or units.
  • Clean aircraft, interior and exterior parts and assemblies with solvents or other cleaning solutions IAW OEM manuals.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education And Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent,
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Ability to operate power and/or hand tools and equipment such as pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, torque wrenches, micrometers, go-no-go gauges, multi-meters, feeler gauges and tensiometers.
  • Work assignments, not detailed in the workbook or in Maintenance Procedure Cards, require remembering directions and sequences.
  • Prior job experience or on-the-job training is normally required to gain the ability to proper use of tools and equipment and the duties performed, require continual care and attention to both avoid accidents and to finish the work properly.
  • A&P is desirable but NOT required.
  • Military experience (if applicable) is acceptable.
  • With appropriate training and experience, the employee must develop the ability to read, understand and apply trade or administrative guides such as technical manuals, technical orders, blueprints, sketches, and other related documentation.
  • Ability to follow appropriate safety procedures common to the trade.
  • In addition, knowledge of specific hazardous materials and hazardous wastes procedures is required including fitting and usage of protective gear and completion of related training.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Travel: From time-to-time travel will be required in support of Axxeum's customer base. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Salary Range: Negotiable based upon experience.
