Job Description
Title: Utility Cook
Reports to: Executive Chef

Azuluna Foods is a farmer-owned pasture-raised meal delivery service operating out of Johnson & Wales’ Harborside Campus in Providence, RI. By utilizing a regional “hub & spoke” farm system and incorporating the best in sustainable, regenerative farming practices based on world-class university standards, our mission is to create delicious evidence-based meals featuring our pasture-raised meats to support the holistic health of our local communities.
Position Summary
The Utility Cook is responsible for assisting the chefs with food preparation in the kitchen and following the recipes given as well helping with the packaging of our meals to be shipped. This will involve a wide range of tasks to help out with both the cooking and the packaging phases of Azuluna Foods.
Duties & Responsibilities Included but not Limited to the following:
- Prepares food to proper specifications before and during operations.
- Complies with all portion sizes, quality standards, department rules, policies, and procedures.
- Cook all food to proper specifications in a timely manner.
- Utilizes kitchen equipment to prepare food items such as knives, slicers, pots, pans, warmers, steamers, grills, ovens, etc.
- Packages all products to proper specifications.
- Assists with the packaging process such as assembling boxes, applying labels, and packing completed orders properly.
- Performs opening, closing, and side work duties as instructed and according to proper guidelines.
- Keeps workstations and equipment clean, organized, and sanitized.
- Properly labels and dates all prepared products. Uses the FIFO method.
- Follows and upholds all health codes and sanitation regulations.
- Sets up and operates kitchen equipment.
- Ask questions pertaining to tasks if uncertain.
Utility Qualifications / Skills:
- Basic knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
- Basic knowledge of varied cooking techniques
- Basic knife skills
- Organizational skills
- Communication skills
- Ability to maintain a calm, composed presence in an often fast-paced environment where multiple tasks, events, and stimuli may occur simultaneously.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Attention to detail
- Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds.
- Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).
- Time management skills
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of culinary training or work experience.
Compensation
· This is a part-time position, 25 hours a week. Salary ranges from $20-$22 an hour based on experience.
