What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipfitter position at B&D Contracting, Inc.?
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics to determine the layout and specifications for ship components
- Layout and cut out steel to be installed to repair barges.
- Use cutting torch, power tools and equipment such as grinders, saws, and drills to cut, shape, and smooth metal surfaces
- Use precision measuring instruments to ensure accurate alignment and fit of barge components
- Rig heavy materials and equipment for lifting and installation
Requirements:
-3 years minimum experience
- Proven experience as a shipfitter
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and schematics
- Some welding skills using various techniques (e.g., SMAW)
- Familiarity with cutting torch, tape measure, power tools and equipment used in metal fabrication
- Safe work habits
- Excellent problem-solving abilities with a focus on attention to detail
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills to interact with co-workers
