Veterinary Technician or Assistant

BEST VETS Animal Hospital (BVAH) is a multi-doctor practice seeking a PT Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant for our quickly growing and fast-paced team, in beautiful Sanford, Florida. We are looking for someone with at least 1 to 2 years’ experience within the veterinary field, who is self-motivated, detail-oriented and dedicated to providing quality care to our patients with great customer service skills. Applicant must be a team player.

Because of this, we are looking for a personable plus highly professional and technically proficient technician or assistant to join us in delivering such things on a daily basis.

The Technician/Assistant is the “backbone of the back of the hospital” for other staff and more importantly for every client and patient. This position assists in setting the “Quality over Quality” tone for the practice as we build and maintain each owner’s/pet’s trust and confidence in our abilities and services.

• Preference to hire someone with the goal of becoming a CVT (Certified Veterinary Technician) or is already one, but not a requirement.

Specific Job Requirements of Technician/Assistant include by not limited to:

• Customer service functions, including greeting visitors, assisting with answering phones, performing call-back services, triaging patients, etc.
• Assisting with scheduling and confirming appointments, as needed.
• Presenting and explaining fees/Treatment Plans in accordance to BVAH’s set policies.
• Recommending, selecting, and obtaining products and services, including prescriptions; under specific BVAH policies and the direction of a veterinarian.
• Offering sound Client Education and answering questions, but not giving uneducated medical advice, regarding products and services, including educating clients on general animal husbandry and non-medical pet care (i.e., heartworm prevention, housebreaking, and flea & tick control).
• Managing medical records, charts, reports and correspondence/communications.
• Hospital maintenance (including removal of animal waste) and ensuring that facility is neat and clean at all times—both inside and outside.
• Preparing surgical suite and surgical patients.
• Filling prescriptions and having basic knowledge of the prescriptions being dispensed.
• Collection of lab samples to be run in-hospital or submitted to outside laboratories, obtain diagnostic imaging, assist with periodontal procedures, and other miscellaneous procedures; Pending staff members drive and willingness to learn more about quality veterinary medicine, BVAH offers guidance and mentorship to allow you to sharpen your skills and learn new techniques.
• Providing compassionate care and a home away from home for boarded and hospitalized pets.
• Practice quality technique plus medicine, under the guidance of a DVM, and offer empathy/compassion for pets and their owners.
• Plus other routine day-to-day technician/assistant tasks as needed.
• Knowledge of AviMark and being bilingual is a plus, but not a requirement.
• Preference to hire someone with the goal of becoming a CVT (Certified Veterinary Technician) or is already one, but not a requirement.

Work is generally performed in an office environment. Ability to sit for long periods of time, stooping, and bending to pick up 50 lbs or more.
