General Summary of Job Duties

The B&O Railroad Museum seeks an organized, creative, and energetic candidate for the temporary position of Sensory Inclusive Summer Camp Aide during 4 weeks of Sensory Inclusive Summer Camp, June through August. The required time commitment would be from 8:30am-4:00pm each day of camp. Working closely with Camp Counselors, our Education Specialist and other camp aides, the candidate will act as a 1:1 aide (when needed) for individual campers or as a camp assistant to help the entire group throughout the week. The museum desires a candidate who has experience working with members of the neuro-diverse community and/or experience working one-on-one with a child, someone who enjoys teaching students of all abilities and acting as a role model for the area’s youth. . Priority will be given to candidates that are available for all 4 weeks of camp. See camp dates below:

Week 1: June 23 – 27 , 2025 (We need extra help this week, if you can only attend week 1, please apply!)

Week 2: July 7-11, 2025

Week 3: July 21 – 25 , 2025

Week 4: August 4- 8, 2025

Job Duties

  • Work one on one with your assigned camper all day, each day of camp. You will assist them through art projects, museum content workshops, self-guided museum tours, and sensory exploration activities.
  • Be prepared to adapt camp activities to be more accessible for your assigned camper. This may include assisting with reading, using adaptive devices, or visual directions.
  • Utilize sensory resources to support the specific needs of your assigned camper for a successful camp week. These resources may include visual schedules, emotional regulation charts, Alternative/Augmented Communication devices, etc.
  • Employ behavioral management techniques and emotional regulation tools when your assigned camper is facing overstimulation or conflict. This may include time in the camp “Cool Down Zone”, breathing exercises, restorative justice conversations, a walk outside, etc.
  • Coordinate with museum education staff and camp counselors to provide an inclusive and positive camp experience for all our campers.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Must be able to work the full camp day (8:30am-4pm) each day of camp.
  • A high school diploma AND 2 years of experience working with Neurodivergent children in a school or therapy setting.
  • Experience working with children who are non-speaking and/or use Alternative and Augmented Communication.
  • Experience working with children who have elopement or aggressive behaviors.
  • Experience working with children with diverse support needs. This includes children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, ADHD/ADD, Down Syndrome, and mental health conditions.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills in times of conflict.
  • Ability to adjust program delivery methods to make activities accessible to all campers.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Knowledge of Special Education teaching standards, goal setting, and behavioral management strategies.
  • Experience working with multiple age groups between elementary and middle school.

Job Type: Temporary

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
