Job Title: Safety Coordinator

Department: Safety, Loss Control and Facilities

Location: Summerdale

 

Description of Responsibilities:

·         Be a champion of safety culture.

·         Coordinate the cooperative’s safety program.

·         Be familiar with the BEMC safety manual and existing policies, procedures, and regulations.

·         Ensure the cooperative meets the criteria of the NRECA and Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP).

·         Keep abreast of new laws, regulations, or technical developments.

·         Collaborate on the planning and implementation of safety policies and procedures.

·         Serve as point of contact for Federated Insurance and OSHA on-site visits.

·         Present safety messages to all audiences.

·         Must have the ability to receive and maintain confidential information.

 

Minimum Requirements:

·         A bachelor’s degree is preferred, or at least five (5) years of training/experience is required.

·         Additional education or training in an electric distribution system, focusing on safety, is highly desirable.

·         Must have a Certified Loss Control Professional Certificate or obtain one within two years of accepting a position.

·         Minimum of five (5) years’ field experience in an electrical distribution system.

·         Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

·         Must have or obtain first aid, CPR, and AED certification.

·         Computer skills are necessary (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook).

·         Knowledge of electric utility construction standards and the National Electric Safety Code.

 

Working Conditions:

·         Work is performed both inside and outside in all weather conditions.

·         Requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 pounds), standing, and twisting.

·         Travel within and outside of service territory, including some overnight.

·         Subject to working extended hours, holidays, nights and weekends.

·         Must maintain primary residence within the Cooperative’s service area.
