Job Brief:
We are seeking a meticulous and knowledgeable Graduate Gemologist to do appraisals and manage our inventory. This role is integral to our success, facilitating the appraisal process for jewelry items for insurance or resale purposes, and will support and work in the inventory department to participate in the order and flow of incoming and outgoing inventory.
Appraiser Responsibilities:
- Appraise all incoming jewelry items for insurance or appropriate purposes
- Identify and evaluate gemstones, metals, and jewelry using the appropriate gemological testing equipment.
- Provide accurate descriptions and market valuations for resale, replacement, and insurance purposes, ensuring customers understand the factors driving the valuation.
- Research, authenticate, and document items, including plotting and photographing as needed.
Inventory Specialist Responsibilities:
- Review and continually work on overall merchandise, diamond assortment, and processes
- Stay up to date with industry trends, forecasts, and product analytics as well as supply and demand to meet business needs
- Overseeing the negotiating of costs, terms, exchanging, and pricing of inventory.
- Tracking inventory movement and ensuring the proper product is stocked to meet sales forecasts.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Prior appraisal experience (3-5 years) with knowledge of diamonds, colored gemstones, precious metals, and timepieces.
- Strong understanding of market values for historical timepieces
- Graduate Gemologist (GG) diploma from The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or Fellowship of Gem-A (FGA) from The Gemmological Association of Great Britain is required.
- Relevant industry certification(s), such as NAJA (National Association of Jewelry Appraisers), AGS CGA (American Gen Society Certified Gemologist Appraiser), ASA (American Society of Appraisers), or equivalent, is preferred
- Completion of the USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practices) course is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to think both strategically and tactically with strong attention to detail
- Capacity to create reporting analytics monthly and share them with upper management
- Strong computer skills to include excel, word, and pivot tables.
- Ability to multi-task
- Highly organized with a focus on execution, problem-solving, and improving processes
- Comfortable working independently and with a team
