Work Schedule & Location
This job is open at our Towson branch located in Towson, Maryland. This is a Full-time position requiring a minimum of 35 hours per week. The work schedule is 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. Duties are performed in a professional office environment. Responsibilities may occasionally require an adjusted work schedule, working from a different branch, working before and/or after business hours, working on Saturdays and working hours exceeding the standard work schedule.

Position Summary
The Human Resource Specialist is responsible for performing a wide variety of complex, technical, and confidential analytical tasks of the Human Resources Department. This position focuses on a wide variety of HR functions including recruitment, benefits administration, leave of absence administration, payroll, performance evaluation administration, human resources systems and records maintenance, and employee relations. Highlights from the job description Include:


  • Assists with all facets of the employee recruitment and selection process, including but not limited to posting jobs, screening applicants, scheduling interviews, interviewing applicants, maintaining applicant tracking data, and conducting pre-employment assessments and background checks. Assists with the annual preparation of the Affirmative Action Plan. Ensures compliance with all relevant employment laws.
  • Administers compensation and benefit plans by processing benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations; calculating salary changes; distributing required notices; maintaining employee benefit and compensation records; assisting with the annual open enrollment process; & assisting with the administration of paid leave programs.
  • Administers leave of absence requests.
  • Prepares and submits compliance reports including EEO-1, VETS-100, non-discrimination testing report, 1095, and the CMS notice of creditable coverage.
  • Oversees the registration and annual renewal of Mortgage Loan Originators (MLOs).
  • Assists with the employee onboarding and offboarding processes. Conducts HR orientation and exit interviews.
  • Maintains human resource systems such as applicant tracking, payroll, and other systems relating to human resource functions. Enters new employee information and processes changes and terminations. Prepares reports. Creates and maintains personnel records and files in compliance with applicable legal requirements.
  • Provides general clerical and administrative support to the HR department in a variety of areas, including writing the monthly employee newsletter, approving invoices, performance evaluation tracking, ordering and distributing employee recognition awards, planning employee celebrations, and filing.
  • Provides assistance to employees by answering questions and solving problems regarding human resource policies and programs.
  • Performs the duties of the Training & Development Specialist as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.

What you Need:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of general office, clerical or administrative experience; HR experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others; demonstrate courtesy, empathy, and politeness.
  • Effective presentation skills to present content both in-person and virtually.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment credit check and criminal background check, as well as post-employment periodic criminal background checks, as a condition of employment.
