Compliance Specialist

JOB SUMMARY

Manage compliance program and training. Responsible for the Compliance review of lending, deposit and operational functions of the bank. Oversees the review and interpretation of new and pending laws and regulations, which potentially affect the organization’s business practices. Coordinates the revision of policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Advises management on possible solutions to meeting compliance standards of new laws and regulation changes. Provides for the review of modifications initiated by functional areas. This position requires a high degree of integrity, trust and confidentiality.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary

• Ensures polices and procedures comply with, existing and new, applicable laws and regulations
• Evaluate compliance in each office on new and existing regulations
• Work with bank management to determine training needs and other areas of concern
• Oversee BSA training annually to all employees
• Review all new RE loans quarterly for inclusion on HMDA LAR
• Review loan documents prior to loan closing as requested by loan officer
• Work with Senior Lending Officer and originating loan officer to obtain additional documentation to complete file to meet compliance requirements
• Perform review of bank’s flood tickler system annually
• Conduct ongoing reviews of the compliance program and will provide at least quarterly reports to the Board of Directors
• Summarize status of reviews and report to the appropriate President and supervisor quarterly
• Perform other tasks requested by supervisor as they relate to Compliance
• Maintain confidentiality of customers conversations, information and proprietary bank information

Secondary

• Knowledge of the various products, services and delivery systems
• Deliver consistent, superior customer service in accordance with BankNorth standards
• Active involvement in community and civic organizations, as appropriate to professionally represent BankNorth in the community

Additional

• Follow established opening and closing procedures
• Complete required compliance and software training
• Participate in training and bank meetings as related to position

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

• Must exercise accuracy, alertness, good judgment, courtesy, tact, patience and professionalism
• Must be able to speak effectively, actively listen and express thoughts in a clear, thorough manner
• Must be able to effectively share and explain pertinent information with bank employees
• Must be willing to collaborate and cooperate with others in the organization and possess effective working relationships with co-workers
• Must be able to demonstrate work stability, be self sufficient and self-motivating with satisfactory attendance/punctuality and an ability to be flexible in work schedule.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration
• Three to five years experience in financial industry and a strong understanding of Banking principles

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively with others, stand and use hands to finger and handle keyboard, telephone, paper, files, and other equipment and objects. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit and to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. This position requires the ability to review and comprehend detailed documents and read computer screens.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment requires appropriate interaction with others. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
