Summary/Objective
The Instrument Tech is responsible for processing instrument trays and other supplies necessary for surgical procedures and in other areas of the facility.
Essential Job Duties

- Sets up and maintains instrument trays and equipment on a continuous basis to ensure ready availability. Utilizes all cleaning products according to guidelines to provide for appropriate cleaning and disinfection of equipment while preventing exposure to chemicals.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of specialized instruments, equipment, and supplies utilized in the operation of decontamination of equipment.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of methods, parameters and documentation of sterilization (i.e. steam, ETO, gas plasma, ozone, vapor phase peroxide, etc.) and associated monitoring controls (i.e. chemical and biological monitors).
- Applies knowledge of infection control principles in the cleaning, disinfecting, and stocking of sterile equipment, supplies, and prepared instrument trays.
- Ensures adequate amounts of equipment and supplies in collaboration with the manager with reordering/restocking as indicated.
- Ensures that indicators and appropriate packing/wrapping of all instrumentation are complete and adhere to AORN standards that impact SPD activities.
Required Education and Experience
High School Graduate or Equivalent
6 months - 1 year related experience
