Summary/Objective
The Endoscopy Technician will assist the physician and nursing staff, to provide gastrointestinal diagnostic testing for inpatients and outpatients. They prepare and transport equipment to assist the gastrointestinal procedure in the Endoscopy Unit, Emergency Unit, ICU, Surgery, and Radiology. Endoscopy Technicians are also responsible to prepare and clean scopes for procedures and ensure all materials are available for procedural areas.

Applies specialized knowledge of specialized instruments, equipment, and supplies utilized in the endoscopy Suite. Organizes instruments, equipment, and supplies for easy access and maximum efficiency, minimal delays and to promote patient safety.

Follows appropriate guidelines for setting up sterile/non-sterile field and instruments for designated procedures. Maintains current knowledge of procedures performed in Endoscopy. Re-stocks procedure room and other designated areas as case load permits

Assumes responsibility for the efficient management of endoscopy cases to which assigned under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Applies knowledge of principles of surgical asepsis required for the surveillance of the Endoscopy Suite environment.

Utilizes appropriate cleaning and decontamination techniques in the maintenance of equipment and supplies. Consistently utilizes Standard Precautions and sterile technique in performing all procedures.

Attends all mandated safety programs or in-services to maintain a working knowledge of appropriate precautions and safe and effective use of equipment and actions to be initiated during the execution of duties. Maintains own proficiency in performing position responsibilities through in-services, seminars, and other self-directed learning activities.

Participates in a rotational call system as needed to provide for continuous availability of patient services.
Required Education and Experience
High School Graduate or Equivalent
Required License/Certifications
BLS Certification within 30 days of hire
Unit specific competencies obtained within six months of hire or date of transfer
