What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher: Music/Band position at Barstow Memorial School?
Barstow is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and collaborative, full-time music/band teacher to fill a vacancy beginning in the 25-26 school year. The teacher will work with students in a variety of formats, including general music classes, middle school band and choral ensembles, and private instrumental lessons. We encourage candidates with a variety of backgrounds, including those outside of traditional education, to apply for this role.
Essential Functions:
Support and expand a successful music program
Develop strategies for increasing participation in the music program in partnership with school administration
Develop meaningful relationships and a positive climate with students in the classroom, in the broader music program, and as an advisor to a group of students
Implement lessons and units aligned to the National Core Arts Standards
Utilize strong communication and publicity skills to be an advocate for the arts in our community
Working knowledge or a willingness to learn and apply the “Danielson” model for professional practice in education.
Commitment to the success of all students and experience providing modifications/accommodations as needed
Ability to use a variety of approaches to establish a safe, caring classroom community and respectful learning environment for students
Knowledge of best practices and school-wide student management protocols (i.e., Responsive Classroom, Multi-Tier Support System, and PBIS)
Ability to integrate technology into the learning environment
Ability to build the current band and chorus programs to increase student involvement
Ability to communicate and collaborate with staff, students, parents and community members
Ability to use formative assessment to provide student feedback and guide instruction
Reflective in teaching practices and skilled in organization, planning, written and oral communication, and collaboration
Ability to interact respectfully and collegially with colleagues
Ability to participate on a team in contribution to promoting a positive school culture
Maintain records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
Desire and enthusiasm to maintain traditions as well as offer new opportunities to students
Experience in organizing and directing performances, including theatrical performances
Required Qualifications:
Must be eligible or possess Vermont State Professional License with appropriate endorsement to teach Music PreK-12.
Strong background in choral/voice pedagogy and performance.
Strong background in instrumental music instruction; including the ability to play a variety of musical instruments.
