What are the responsibilities and job description for the Radiology Tech Assistant - Ascension position at Baton Rouge General?
JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: The Radiology Tech Assistant performs specific tasks supporting the delivery of patient care in the assigned area. Works under the direction of a Registered Technologist. Assists with receiving patient in the exam room and proper positioning of patients for exams. Assists in the transport of patients to and from the designated exam area and with other duties as assigned.

JOB FUNCTIONS
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
- Provides support for the delivery of a full range of medical imaging and/or therapeutic radiology procedures, performing a variety of technical and patient care related duties enhancing the effective and efficient delivery of radiology services.
- Assist in coordinating inpatient department flow by maintaining communication between the department and patient floors
- Transports patient to and from Radiology, following all BRGMC rules and procedures.
- Notifies patient care staff on receiving unit of patient’s arrival.
- Promotes the team approach to providing Radiology services by positively interacting with the technical, support, nursing, residents and medical staff.
- Demonstrates courtesy and caring to other staff, patients, and physicians.
- Requires extensive contact and the ability to communicate effectively with other staff, co-workers, and patients.
- Completes all hospital required education on time.
- Ensures the area is regulatory ready at all times (Joint Commission, DEQ, CMS, ACR, FDA, MQSA, etc.)
- Promptly and courteously answers the telephone and receives guests using AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank you)
2. Maintains cleanliness and serviceability of transport equipment.
- Cleans stretchers, wheelchairs, etc. according to established Infection Control guidelines.
- Reports repair needs to dispatcher upon discovery. Removes damaged/unsafe equipment from usage.
- Checks quantity gauges and exchanges oxygen tanks, regulators, racks, etc. as needed.
- Disposes of soiled linen properly; distributes clean linen bags.
- Returns all equipment to proper location at end of shift.
3. Performs all other duties as required.
- Provides lifting services to patient care staff as requested.
- Attends all required meetings and in-services.
- Delivers mail, packages, medical records, etc. as requested.
- Performs other and/or more complex duties as assigned by supervisor, within scope of individual ability and knowledge.
SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Prior experience in hospital setting preferred.
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Able to lift, carry and transport patients of various body weights.
Able to understand and carry out instructions. Dependable and motivated to complete duties without constant supervision. Able to interact appropriately with a diverse population of customers.
HIPAA REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Medical records w/o limitation both paper and electronic, patient demographics, lab and radiology results, patient information related to surgery or appointment schedules, information related to patient location, religious beliefs and/or public health records, medical records related to quality/data, patient financial information and/or 3rd party billing, patient-related complaints.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing, environment of care, patient identification, administers/receives/collects meds/blood, orders or products, validates, transports, monitors or observes patients for procedures including infusion pumps, and monitors clinical alarms.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Reference DOT 078.362-026 – RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST (medical serv.) alternate titles: radiographer; x-ray technologist – STRENGTH: L – Light Work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exits 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling or far or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
