In this paid internship You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team on one or more of several projects.

These projects include:
  • Support modeling and simulation efforts on nuclear materials using MOOSE as the primary modeling and simulation platform.

  • Support development of phase-field models for corrosion of engineering alloys in molten salt environments.

  • Support thermochemistry calculations for modeling and simulation efforts on nuclear materials using MOOSE as the primary modeling and simulation platform.

  • Support development of surrogate modeling / coupling methods to accelerate integration of thermodynamic equilibrium solvers in MOOSE.

  • Develop machine learning surrogate models to bridge lower length-scale simulations to the engineering scale.

  • Support development of high strain rate explicit dynamics models involving contact mechanics.

The Ideal Candidate will have programming experience in C / Python, experience or coursework in materials modeling or experience with phase-field modeling, machine learning, or computational mechanics, or thermodynamic modeling, and/or familiarity with MOOSE Framework / Thermochimica / FactSage / Thermocalc. You will be reporting to the Computational Mechanics and Materials group. This team works a 9x80 schedule, and works onsite at our Idaho Falls campus. Start date and duration of internship vary based on project and student availability. You may be eligible for course credit for this internship if approved by your university.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Doctorate Degree Program enrolled full time at an accredited college/university studying Nuclear Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science or related field.

  • A minimum overall 3.5 GPA

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. (including CPT and OPT)

Compensation and Benefits:

  • PhD Internships Post-Candidacy ($33.75/hour - $36.06/hour)

  • Eligible interns are provided paid holiday time off, and many of our internships offer travel reimbursements.

  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on degree field and level of education.
