Objective
The HSE Coordinator will be responsible for leading a positive and encouraging safety culture for Battletown Materials The primary objective is to develop, implement, monitor and coordinate all dimensions of the health and safety program in order to at a minimum, stay compliant but more importantly, meet or exceed all company safety and environmental objectives. In addition, the HSE Coordinator is expected to interact with all hourly and salary employees regarding safety and environmental matters. This person should be an excellent trainer and should be one that can lead change. General knowledge of MSHA rules and regulations is a must.
Organization Structure
The HSE Coordinator reports to the V.P. of Operations and is a member of the leadership team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide support to management and supervisors on issues dealing with training, health, and safety.
- Work directly with the Operations Manager and corporate manager of safety and risk management to ensure that all activities work together to promote a safe working environment for all employees.
- Must ensure that corporate safety and health policies are administered in a consistent manner. The various functions involved in the execution of these policies and procedures require knowledge of federal and state laws regarding occupational health and safety.
- Maintain compliance in all environmental items, work with consultants and corporate personnel in determining permitting requirements
- Submit and obtain environmental permits from the state, local or federal government
- Maintain all corporate safety and environmental systems.
- Stimulate change that continuously improves the effectiveness of the company safety program.
- Provide support to front line supervisors and management for safety related items.
- Develop, coordinate, and maintain the company health and safety program and safety manual.
- Ensure that all incidents/ accidents are properly reported and investigated and follows up on them.
- Monitor compliance with Workers' Compensation Act and Regulations as well as ensuring proper and timely reporting of injuries and follow all claims to completion.
- Lead all HSE initiatives.
Relationships with Other Jobs:
- Works closely with local VP Operations, managers, supervisors and hourly personnel.
- Works closely with the Corporate HSE Manager.
Qualifications:
Education & Work Experience:
- Associate degree in safety, environmental management, construction management or related field preferred
- 5 years of related experience in safety in a mine or plant environment
Knowledge & Skills:
- Excellent communication skills – dedicated to meeting the expectations of internal and external customers
- Must be flexible and able to balance shifting priorities to meet deadlines
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills and the desire to seek solutions
- Excellent leadership skills - must be able to motivate others and provide complete, direct and actionable feedback
- Exhibit strong organizational skills and use resources effectively and efficiently
- Possess a commitment and willingness to devote great effort and time in order to reach goals
- Ability to make decisions in a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete data and under tight deadlines and pressure
- Proficient with Microsoft applications, specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee will frequently be required to walk on rocky, irregular surfaces that may be muddy and in reduced lighting conditions. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
