What We Are Looking For
Baylor University is seeking Challenge Course Facilitators who may work with or as a Lead Facilitator and are responsible for conducting programs at the Baylor Challenge Course in keeping with program policies, industry standards and other responsibilities.
A high school diploma and one year of relevant work experience is required.
Additional preferred qualifications:
- Experience teaching or facilitating fitness training courses or other related experience
- Current CPR and First Aid training
- ACCT Level 1 Certification or related certification
Challenge Course staff work on an as needed basis. This is dependent upon scheduling groups and the staff’s availability. If a group cancels or the course closes due to inclement weather, staff will only be compensated for their actual hours worked on the course.
*All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
What You Will Do
- Assisting in daily Inspection of Challenge Course elements
- Assisting with setup and take down of challenge course elements
- Effective instruction and facilitation in high ropes, low ropes and portable initiative activities
- Facilitation of group development and educational outcomes, as planned by the Lead Facilitator
- Assist in the completion of daily paperwork documenting operations and incidents
- Collaborate with other challenge course staff to plan, frontload, facilitate and debrief initiatives and elements for diverse and dynamic populations
- Ensure the mental, physical, and emotional safety of each participant
- Lead discussions to help participants generalize lessons learned during a program to other areas of their lives
- Exercise good judgment in making independent decisions regarding safe and effective use of the course
- Perform necessary opening and closing procedures for the challenge course
- Promote cleanliness of the challenge course area at all times
- Understand the emergency action plan and implement the appropriate steps when necessary
- Uphold the mission and values of the Department of Campus Recreation
- Establish and maintain clear and open communication with staff and supervisors
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
- Ability to comply with University policies
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
