Position Summary
The Development Director is responsible for overseeing Bayview’s fundraising and communications strategy and implementation, including but not limited to donor relationship building/stewardship, corporate relations, grant writing, annual appeals, public awareness and fundraising/friendraising events, communications materials, as well as website and social media promotion. Prior experience in fundraising and communications work is required, with an emphasis on strong communication, relationship building, writing/storytelling and administrative skills.
Hours And Compensation
The Development Director is a full time position, 40 hrs/week, with an annual salary of $70,000-75,000 depending upon experience. Eligible for medical and dental benefits. Accrued PTO (sick, vacation, personal days) and holidays.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Design, direct and evaluate an engaging and meaningful fund development, donor stewardship and communications strategy
- Research and prioritize grant opportunities, documenting funder priorities, preferences and grant requirements
- Create and maintain annual grant prospect and award tracking spreadsheets
- Prepare, write, and submit grant proposals; Monitor and track responses; Respond to inquiries
- Develop and oversee effective methods for gathering quantitative and qualitative data and program/project documentation to share with stakeholders
- Develop and implement integrated communications, storytelling, website and social media strategy and annual calendar
- Create promotional materials including organizational brochure, flyers, electronic newsletters, website, and social media platforms
- Prepare and share annual report
- Prepare requested documentation and respond to questions and queries related to the annual financial audit
- Oversee fundraising committee made up of board members and other volunteers
- Supervise and evaluate Development Coordinator
- Develop annual fundraising campaign and coordinate mailings; Oversee Giving Tuesday, The Big Share and other annual fundraising/friendraising campaigns and opportunities
- Oversee donor prospect research and build electronic contacts database
- Ensure timely follow-up and regular correspondence to funders, sponsors, and partners to maintain strong communication and positive relationships
- Oversee grant compliance. This includes working with staff and partners to finalize contract materials, develop and track budgets, and report outcomes
- Manage annual events (up to four) aimed at increasing awareness, visibility and donor interest in Bayview
- Participate in Community Shares of Wisconsin meetings and manage membership commitments
- Manage media relations, write press releases and follow-up on coverage
- Identify and develop strategic relationships for grant partnerships. Participate in collaborative efforts with universities, organizations, and projects.
- Develop and maintain relationships within Bayview in order to help align ideas and goals with funding opportunities
- Maintain donor database and provide quarterly reports to Executive Director
- Participate in leadership team meetings and provide support and insight as requested
- Conduct tours and manage public speaking engagements
- Three to five years experience in fundraising, communications, donor relations and grant writing
- Degree in communications, English, journalism, and/or a related field or equivalent professional experience
- Excellent knowledge of fundraising strategies and methods, grant proposal submission, donor relations and stewardship and storytelling
- Talent for translating complex topics into clear, concise, and compelling content
- Extreme comfort with public speaking, relationship building, and collaboration
- Loves being part of a team and contributing ideas, creativity, effort and talents
- Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost discretion
- Experience with databases (preferably donor focused), Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Commitment to social justice, equity, and anti-racism
