What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research and Development Manager position at Beauty Quest Group?
As a Research and Development Manager at Beauty Quest Group, you will be responsible for spearheading all aspects of product development, from conceptualization to final formulation. Your primary focus will be on driving innovation in the hair care category by developing new products, managing their development, and reformulating existing ones.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced practitioner with a broad skill set and a passion for hands-on laboratory work in a dynamic R&D environment. You should have extensive knowledge of hair care formulations and be able to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Main Responsibilities:
- Schedule daily activities, including prioritizing projects, and assist direct reports in designing experimental plans.
- Advise on skin and hair care technologies, such as surfactant systems, gels, emulsions, and serums.
- Process new or existing technologies and develop evaluation methods to compare efficacy.
- Maintain stability of experimental formulas for 3 months at 25°C, 40°C, and 45°C, predicting shelf life and reformulating to improve stability.
- Complete formulation documentation in the computer database and pass it on to QC for production needs.
- Provide customers with necessary documentation for international requirements (PIP or Dossier).
- Communicate with raw material manufacturers to identify new materials, improve formulation understanding, check availability, and clarify information for QC and purchasing.
- Set up informative seminars for the team to increase breadth and understanding of raw materials and technologies.
- Foster collaboration with direct reports to design formulas, evaluate stability, and achieve customer goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or Cosmetic Science.
- 5-7 years' experience in a cosmetic laboratory, preferably in hair care.
- Supervisory experience.
