Job Summary
As a Structural Dynamics Engineer at BPMI, you will be responsible for evaluating dynamic, vibration, and shock loading effects and oversight of shock and vibration testing to ensure that structural acceptability and dynamic design requirements of Naval Nuclear Propulsion components are met. Technical evaluations performed within this role may require the application of engineering first principles, transient dynamic analysis, steady state vibration, modal analysis, signal processing, finite element methods, and programming skills. The role supports the development of structural, testing, and dynamic methods-based recommendations with opportunities to introduce new technologies and enhance Program capabilities relative to shock and vibration analysis.
Essential Duties :
Perform delegated engineering responsibility for all aspects of assigned tasks with some guidance on non-routine tasks. Resolve issues in area of cognizance.Interface with other program organizations to accomplish objectives and provide technical support and oversight for field operations.Team with other engineers performing related phases of the technical work to ensure integration of activities and plans. May act as a lead for portions of the technical work.Apply knowledge of NAVSEA requirements to work assignments. Prepare project plans to accomplish assigned work, identify and complete performance measures including post job assessments, cost and schedule estimates. Prepare reports, or procedures in accordance with NR program quality standards. Meet project and scheduler requirements.Perform analytical evaluations which may include the development and application of complex computer models and develop system knowledge to apply to technical and operational problem solving.Initiate, design, develop, and support the execution and implementation of engineering research and design projects and communicate as necessary to ensure customer and senior manager understanding of project status.Perform engineering duties or emergent problems to establish root cause(s) and propose corrective action(s). Understand and implement the Company engineering policies and procedures in area of cognizance.Perform analyses and evaluations of supplier designs for material suitability, reliability and integrity.Assume technical cognizance of assigned reactor plant components and equipment, structural analysis or materials evaluation and application.Prepare letters to the Government providing technical information, recommending approval of technical actions or obtaining approval of funding.Review and approve supplier designs and supporting technical reports on assigned components and equipment.Interpret drawings, specifications, manufacturing process information, inspection, and test procedures to ensure suppliers are meeting contract requirements.The essential duties identified are representative but are not intended to be an exhaustive or inclusive list of all the responsibilities of the position.What You Can Expect :

B.S in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or related engineering field is required.A minimum of six (6) years of related professional experience.Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.Preferred Job Requirements :
M.S in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil Engineering, or Applied Mechanics with concentration in structural mechanics / dynamics is preferred.Experience with shock and / or vibration testing of equipment. Familiarity with military specification MIL-DTL-901 and MIL-STD-167 requirements and applications is a plus.Experience with signal processing software and manipulation of noisy data. Familiarity with accelerometer data streams and evaluation methods is a plus.Experience in performing structural dynamic analyses, such as modal analysis, shock response spectrum analysis, transient shock analysis, dynamic design analysis method (DDAM), and elastic-plastic modeling.Experience in mechanical analysis / design, with emphasis on structural analysis and material behavior requirements.Demonstrated experience using finite element analysis and computer-aided engineering techniques.Proven track record of effective written and verbal communication skills and creative problem-solving capabilities.Working knowledge of some or all of the following : engineering mechanics, structural dynamics, mechanical vibrations, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, or related technology.Why BPMI?
