Join Our Team as the President's Home Manager at Berea College!
Berea College is looking for a President's Home Manager. This position will serve as the point person for the maintenance, organization, and logistics coordination of the President’s Home. They will serve as the primary contact for events taking place at the Home, from large-scale receptions to social mixers with students to dinners with distinguished guests. As the Home’s event coordinator, they must oversee the annual event calendar, work with catering on food orders, bring a detail-oriented approach to event design, and organize the use and storage of supplies (ranging from dishware to gifts to cleaning supplies)-and must maintain a positive, welcoming attitude as a public representative of the President. The responsibilities include preparing the home for events, assisting the President and First Fellow as hosts, running errands in preparation for events, and assisting with hospitality and social occasions by setting tables, preparing food, p[bartending, and greeting guests. This individual will be responsible for tear-down of events, including cleaning up and resetting the spaces. This individual must be available and willing to work flexible hours to accommodate planning and execution of events at the President’s Home. This individual will liaise with other staff members, including, but not limited to, the Special Assistant to the President, the Director of Signature Events, the Catering Manger, and Facilities Management to ensure seamless event planning and coordination. As time allows, this individual will be asked to assist with Presidential events elsewhere on campus. This individual must be comfortable interacting with a range of guests, from current college students to trustees and dignitaries.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all aspects of President’s Home events, including set up, all necessary activities during the event, and clean up
- Manage calendar for President’s Home
- Run errands in preparation for events as needed
- Serve as guest-centered server during events, including serving food and alcohol
- Organize inventory and storage of event supplies (including dish/glassware, gifts, seasonal decorations, furniture, clearing supplies)
- Oversee maintenance and upkeep of President’s Home
- Support the President and First Fellow in serving as hosts
- Assist with other hospitality and social occasions/events as needed
- Serve as manager of the President’s home, under the direction of the Special Assistant to the President
What You'll Bring:
Education required to ensure success in this position:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- At least two years of direct management experience in hospitality, event planning, or a related field.
- Exceptional event coordination abilities with meticulous attention to detail
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to work collegially and collaboratively with a variety of constituents, including students, staff, faculty, and VIP guests
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including frequent nights and weekends.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook)
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to navigate campus buildings and grounds
- Ability to carry moderate weight (i.e. moving furniture occasionally, food and beverage set up)
