What are the responsibilities and job description for the Garden Manager Coordinator position at Berkeley Student Cooperative?
Term: Fall/ Spring/ Summer
GARDEN MANAGER COORDINATOR
The Garden Manager Coordinator (GMC) is the primary central-level contact for Garden Managers. This position supports elected Garden Managers throughout the BSC in achieving the goals of their position and is responsible for maintaining the Garden Manager Hub at Rochdale’s Davis Park. This includes making sure that the hub is fully stocked with materials specific to BSC garden needs, soliciting donations of materials and/or funds as needed. To this end, coordination with Rochdale’s Landscaping Coordinator is recommended.
The GMC collaborates with unit-level managers to identify, sow, raise and deliver plants specific to the unit-level garden needs. To support deliveries, the GMC can work with the central office to secure access to the pick-up truck.. The GMC ideally has served as a unit-level Garden Manager for at least one semester, understands the responsibilities of the Garden Manager position, and has a strong background in horticulture/agriculture.
This position creates and updates training materials for Garden Managers (including financial resources guides, on and off campus opportunities, and training curriculum). This position should coordinate Garden Manager wide gatherings at least once per semester to support resource exchange, skill sharing and community building. This includes updating a BSC-wide Garden Manager group chat. Where needed, liaising with the central level Habitability, Sustainability, Waste Reduction, and Member Education Coordinators is encouraged. Finally, the GMC will support units interested in creating a Garden Manager position who have not had one in the past.
