Job Description

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: 

  • Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid
  • Dean of Athletics and/or Assistant Athletic Director

FLSA STATUS:

  • Exempt

PURPOSE: 

  • This position independently performs and is responsible for marketing Bethany College to prospective students. The purpose of this position is to increase the overall enrollment of the college. This person will also advise all potential students in matters of financial aid, student life, co-curricular activities and general academic information. 
  • This position will serve as Bethany Cheer Coach and will work to recruit and manage Bethany’s Cheer Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Territory Management. 
  • Participate with on-campus and off-campus event days. 
  • Host prospective students and their families on campus. 
  • Create successful recruitment activities in a specified geographic area including high schools, college fairs, and alumni events. 
  • Build strong relationships with prospective students by initiating telephone communication, text messaging, email, social media and handwritten correspondence to prospective students and their parents. 
  • Articulate scholarship and financial aid programs to students and parents. 
  • Utilize Slate in recruitment territory 
  • Participate in team meetings, providing input and suggestions. 
  • Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality. 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned 
  • Manage, coach, and recruit the Bethany Cheer Program
  • Administration of all phases of a NAIA sports program including recruiting qualified student-athletes.
  • Adhere to College recruitment scholarship model.
  • Lead, support, and prioritize student retention and persistence to graduation. 
  • Create and foster a positive environment of growth, development, and support for student-athletes, both in and out of sport. Negative, demeaning, and derogatory coaching and communication tactics will not be tolerated. 
  • Formulate the team’s schedule.
  • Organize and train student-athletes for successful and safe participation.
  • Keep abreast of current trends and methods by participating in clinics, workshops, etc. that contribute to professional development and self-improvement.
  • Adhere to college, KCAC and/or NAIA policies and procedures.
  • Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor as well as any staff or team members associated with the program.
  • Cooperate with other coaches in providing the optimum sports program possible under existing conditions.
  • Adhere to all College spending policies and procedures. 
  • Effectively prepare, spend and manage the budget and records for the team.
  • Actively lead fundraising efforts for the sport program, as well as for the Department of Athletics. 
  • Prepare timely and accurate documents, such as travel expense statements, itineraries, etc.
  • Take the initiative to provide new ideas and concepts to improve the efficiency and productivity of the staff.
  • Support the Department of Athletics mission, vision, and values.
  • Monitor and support the academic success of student athletes.
  • Lead community engagement and service-learning opportunities within the sport program. 
  • Plan and conduct pre- and post-season conditioning and/or training programs.
  • Plan and lead pre- and post-season individual meetings with student-athletes to discuss progress, development, and goals. 
  • Arrange team travel and meals.
  • Approve any stipends to assistant coaches.
  • Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the sport is conducted at all times.
  • Coordinate visits by recruits and their families.
  • Prepare an inventory of all equipment at the end of the season.
  • General upkeep and protection of equipment under the jurisdiction of the program.
  • Write at the end of the season an annual report evaluating the program with recommendations for improvements.
  • Carry out other related administrative duties as directed by the Dean of Athletics and Assistant Athletic Director.
  • Participate in staff and team meetings, providing input and suggestions.  
  • Provide continual evaluation of processes and procedures. Responsible for suggesting methods to improve area operations, efficiency and service to both internal and external customers.

Work in collaboration and cooperation with other departments and academic divisions on campus, using timely and appropriate judgment in upward communication regarding department concerns and responsibilities

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Strong work ethic – dedicated to completing the job. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences, including students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, administration, and the community-at-large.
  • Functional knowledge with Microsoft Windows 
  • Functional knowledge with Microsoft Office 
  • Basic personal computer operation 
  • Competent in email and document management 
  • Cheer background

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. May require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques required. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee will primarily work from office at Bethany College. On location, work is generally performed indoors with ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment. Evenings and Weekends required. Will travel to assigned locations. 

 

TRAVEL: 40% minimum, travel as required by recruiting schedule and Cheer team travel
