The Manager of Events is a strategic thinker experienced at event planning and fundraising and is responsible for the organization’s events platform. This significant organizational role enhances visibility, engagement and fundraising through the seamless delivery of high-quality successful events. The position is designed to be responsible for planning, executing, and growing BBBS Broward’s signature fundraising events to generate revenue and support the agency’s mission.
The manager role leads efforts for event logistics, secures corporate sponsorships, engages donors, and creates impactful experiences that drive community engagement and financial support. The manager is an effective leader able to guide and secure commitments for event work from volunteers while balancing the BBBS internal staff schedules. The position reports to the Director of Development and works with a development team guided by the CEO.
Responsibilities
Event Creation, Planning & Execution
- Oversee with hands-on management the planning and execution of BBBS Broward’s signature fundraising events throughout the year. [Shared and discussed at the time of interview will be the current list - also we encourage visitors to the BBBS website. Creation of new events also occurs routinely, and the position is responsible for a few staff-centric events.]
- Develop and manage event budgets, ensuring cost efficiency while maximizing fundraising potential.
- Work with vendors, venues, and contractors to coordinate logistics, including catering, AV, décor, and production.
- Lead event committees and collaborate with volunteers, board members, and staff to enhance event success.
- Secure timely orders and plan for all event materials while working with marketing to secure other materials for events.
- Ensure all events align with the BBBS Broward brand and mission, delivering high-quality experiences for attendees.
Fundraising & Corporate Sponsorships
- Develop and implement strategies to secure corporate sponsorships and partnerships for all BBBS Broward events.
- Cultivate relationships with existing and potential sponsors to grow event revenue and donor engagement.
- Create compelling sponsorship packages and customized activation opportunities to align with corporate partners’ objectives.
- Work closely with the development team to align event fundraising strategies with the agency’s overall revenue goals.
Donor & Community Engagement
- Work with marketing and communications teams to promote events through digital, print, and social media channels.
- Engage board members, corporate partners, and community leaders in fundraising and event participation.
- Develop creative event programming and experiences that inspire donor giving and long-term engagement.
- Analyze event performance metrics and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
General
- Manage overall organization and discussion with multiple stakeholders exchanging ideas, both listening and offering ideas, while bringing together everyone through communication, execution and planning. This position pivots noting that ideas and direction change, and the responsibility is to manage all for final plan execution.
- Ability to assemble order and be hands on at all events ready to triage issues.
- Arrange in advance of events communication delivery, schedule meetings with volunteers and staff to share all details of responsibilities and event execution.
- Maintain a strong understanding of new and existing BBBS programs and community resources.
- Coordinate with program staff on match activity for alignment within the Events Manager position.
- Other duties as needed.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Certificate in Event Planning is a plus. Equivalency reviewed.
Work Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in event management, fundraising, corporate sponsorships, or nonprofit development.
Skill Requirements:
- Strategic Thinker: Ability to set and execute long-term event strategies that align with organizational goals.
- Management: Experience with supervising volunteers and staff in an event environment.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience in donor stewardship and relations.
- Relationship Building: Skilled in cultivating and managing relationships with event venues staff, vendors, board members, corporate partners, and community leaders for fundraising and event participation.
- Presentation skills to effectively promote the agency mission and vision, both internally and externally.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to engage and influence corporate partners and donors.
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple events simultaneously.
- Ability to budget and report on financials relating to events.
- Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and effectively manage workflow to meet deadlines.
- Self-starter demonstrating the ability to use time effectively, work independently, focus on deliverables and priorities while managing a team.
- Proficiency in technical areas such as Microsoft Office: Sharepoint, Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel. Also proficient with databases (Matchforce/Salesforce, Qgiv or similar).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required for events.
- Discretion to handle confidential information.
- Ability to travel to events and transport (with assistance) event props and materials.
Minimal physical requirements to include walking, standing, occasional lifting, sitting at workstation and supporting community activities and events.
Employment requires passing a thorough background screening, finger printing and reference check. Reliable transportation is required, including proof of insurance and a clean driving record.
