What are the responsibilities and job description for the VP, Marketing position at Big Lots?
The Vice President, Marketing, will lead the development and execution of the overall marketing strategy that contributes to Company growth through more than 1,400 retail stores and biglots.com. He/she will oversee promotion of merchandising strategies, in-store experience/ambiance, local marketing and all paid media and 1:many CRM content to ensure that we are leveraging customer mindset and business priorities for growth.
The Vice President, Marketing, will lead the team that creates and activates these plans by leveraging consumer insights and trends with consideration of market size, Company share, competitors and consumer barriers/attitudes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive profitable, omni-channel growth by providing direction and management for marketing efforts by developing plans at the Company and division level, leveraging an integrated marketing approach as appropriate given criticality
- Lead development of all Marketing plans, both in-store and out-of-store, to support goals and initiatives, as well as to drive awareness, brand consideration and trial
- Lead all omni-channel media-buying efforts (~$100M/year budget) with strong understanding of iROAS and ability to leverage spend across the brand funnel to optimize return for both new and existing customers
- Lead the national/1:many promotions calendar management, including the crafting of messages and offers for all integrated campaigns and priorities, coordinated with 1:1 personalization efforts, merchandise planning and our charitable store promotions
- Oversee all in-store activations, in partnership with Store Operations, through promotional and branding signage and events (local and national)

- Think strategically, synthesizing information and trends from many sources to size market, identify opportunities and define/oversee plans required to realize opportunities
- Be highly analytical, with a strong bias for action and sense of urgency and accountability
- Possess enterprise-wide view of driving the business, with a focus on key initiatives that increase short-term results while maintaining a long-term view on customer growth and retention
- Have strong communication and influencing skills; collaborative bridge-builder who is persuasive and skilled at cross functional buy-in, most importantly with senior-level leadership
- Effectively scope projects and propose practical approaches to complex opportunities
- Be assertive and operate with a sense of urgency, making data-based recommendations and influence others with an expert point of view
- Possess high level of executive presence and courage to address conflict when needed
- Possess exceptional leadership skills and develop/mentor talent across the team/Company
- Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external customers, with strong consensus-building acumen and an inclusive leadership style
- Communicate how a strategy is executed on-brand with internal and external partners to drive brand unaided awareness, brand consideration and trial
- Handle a fast-paced environment, able to apply critical decision making as priorities shift

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Undergraduate degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or similar required
- MBA or other advanced graduate degree preferred
- Minimum 15 years of marketing experience and 10 years of supervisory responsibility
- Experience managing a team of 10 associates and multiple agencies
