Job Title: 7-12 Campus Minister
Reports to: Director of Camp Ministry
Start Date: Tentative-June 2025
Primary Purpose: In conjunction with the Director of Campus Ministry, to plan and execute the facilitation of liturgies, retreats, and other events among 7-12 grade levels to draw students into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ within the life of the Roman Catholic Church.
Essential Functions:
1. Plans and executes Campus Ministry that develops a broad base of student participation. This will involve the coordination of events, activities, and facilities for small groups, Bible Studies, retreats, and conferences. It will also include the building of strong relationships with students.
2. Works with the building principals, members of the theology department, and other faculty to promote the formation of students in the faith and execute various ministries.
3. Works to encourage students and families to engage an integrated Catholic life in and outside of the school.
4. Supports and strengthens the faith dimension of the school by following the command of Christ to "Pray always" through prayer opportunities during the liturgical seasons, special events, and during times of crisis. Facilitating student ownership of prayer events is a priority.
5. Organizes service opportunities within the school. Coordinates existing service work and expands opportunities for the students.
6. Promotes a pro-life culture within the school through events and student awareness.
7. Plan and lead retreat opportunities within the school. Coordinates existing service work and expands opportunities for the students.
8. Promotes a culture of vocational discernment among students.
9. Builds collaborative relationships with clergy and staff of local parishes and other Catholic institutions, and with parents to create a team of volunteers.
10. Collaborates with chaplain and guidance counselor in assisting students with personal problems and pressures.
11. Assists the chaplain in planning and executing faith formation/catechesis sessions for the school faculty.
12. Assists with special programming that responds to specific needs that arise in the community. This includes activities such as food drives or other fundraisers.
13. Assists the Director of Campus Ministry in budgeting, communication, scheduling, and follow up necessary for each responsibility.
14. Attends conferences or training sessions yearly to continue to improve their skills.
15. Participates in an annual performance evaluation according to the employee guidelines and policies.
The position is generally a 40-hour per week position within the school day. With the nature of retreats, events, conferences and other activities, some nights and weekends will be necessary to fulfill the duties of the position. Flexibility will be considered during busy seasons in communication with the Director of Campus Ministry and Bishop Heelan Principal.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required or Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Theology, Ministry, Evangelization or equivalent work experience in related field.
Must be in good standing with the Catholic Church, practice the Catholic faith, and have an interest in building knowledge of the latests trends in youth ministry and in building relationships among others in the field.
Must be able to handle confidential information appropriately, be well-organized with a good eye for detail, and be able to perform responsibilities effectively in a flexible manner in response to continual change. Must be computer literate in a variety of applications or willing to learn in a short time. Must possess excellent communications skills, including the ability to deal directly with students and clergy.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements:
Sedentary work- involves sitting frequently, walking and standing are required occasionally. Duties require occasional travel including some evening and weekend events. Although work is performed primarily under inside environmental conditions, the required travel may result in temporary exposure to outside environmental conditions. Regular driving and a valid driver's license are required. Excellent listening and communication abilities needed. Duties require a wide range of intellectual and practical problem solving skills and comprehension of complex concepts. Strong interpersonal skills are also required.
