BOYS BASKETBALL HEAD COACH – JOB DESCRIPTION
The role of the Head Boys Basketball Coach is to develop an atmosphere that promotes Faith,Family, Knowledge/Competition and Service. Bishop Heelan Catholic High School sees the role of the Head Boys Basketball Coach as being someone who, in addition to having a knowledge in coaching the sport of basketball, can teach and model high character. Ideally it will be someone who can incorporate the values of Bishop Heelan and will use basketball as an extension of the classroom. The Head Boys Basketball Coach will develop an expectation of excellence in promoting the Catholic faith, building a culture of family, and developing servant leaders; all
while competing at a high level across the state of Iowa and surrounding area. The Head Boys Basketball Coach reports directly to the Co-Directors of Athletics.
Specific Duties of the Head Boys Basketball Coach include but are not limited to:
Communicate frequently with Activities Director and Dean of Students/Activities
Hold a preseason and postseason meeting with ADs
Maintain a physically safe practice environment and plan effective practices
Maintain their sport’s budget
Be aware of athletes school attendance and grades
Coordinate teambuilding/bonding activities
Distribute and collect all uniforms and equipment and keep Co-ADs apprised of any needs
Attend clinics / find other opportunities to continue to grow as a coach
Hire / Develop assistant coaches as needed along with ADs
Offseason-
Schedule and supervise open gyms
Summer – Team camp for JV/V teams / hold a camp for youth teams
Season-
Conduct practices and conditioning.
Coordinate with Activities Director/Dean of Students regarding uniform and practice gear needs and before making any purchases
Send letter home to parents regarding practice gear requirements and uniform requirements
Arrange transportation with the Athletics Office to travel to away games.
Along with staff be able to transport team as needed and ride with team to away games out of town.
Organize an end of the year banquet
Present athletes with awards and varsity letters.
Collect and inventory uniforms.
Update statistics in a timely fashion in Bound
