Job Purpose
This position is responsible for development and implementation of all activities and tasks related to grounds (facilities and landscaping) support and security at Bishop Museum. Areas of responsibility include direct supervision of the groundskeeping staff, security department staff, housekeeping staff and facility maintenance and support staff. Groundskeeping management includes development and implementation of plans to maintain and enhance safe and aesthetically attractive facilities. Security management includes directing security operations to ensure the Museums buildings and its contents and personnel are safe and secure from fire, theft and other hazards. Facilities support management includes proactive maintenance of the Museums buildings, fixtures, motor pool and ancillary operations. As designated Safety Officer, this position is also responsible for all duties related to being the Museums designated safety officer.
Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of Executive leadership, develops and implements the operational goals and objectives for the Building & Grounds department and Security to ensure effective program planning in the care, maintenance, safety and improvement of the Museum campus.
Building and Grounds

Responsible for establishing and regularly reviewing standards of operations for general upkeep and preventative maintenance repair programs for buildings and fixtures (including utilities), grounds, and Museum equipment.

Stays updated, plans for and assures compliance with industry practices for areas of responsibility.

Plans and schedules work assignments of department supervisors and staff and reviews performance according to prescribed verbal and/ or written instructions.

Contracts and works with architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, suppliers and vendors to address the maintenance and improvement of the Museum facilities and grounds.

Oversees work of contractors to ensure compliance with budget, contract standards and timely completion of projects.

Reviews and makes changes when necessary to annual Buildings & Grounds contracts and supply purchase agreements to ensure the Museum receives the most beneficial terms for the services and supplies it purchases.

Provides planning and support services to other Museum departments including but not limited to Exhibits, Visitor Services, Membership, Special Events and Education, Information Technology and Informatics, and the Knowledge Core (Culture and Natural Science) to assist in achievement of the Museums goals and objectives.

Proactively keeps apprised of programs and activities across the Museum to coordinate appropriate B & G staff coverage and resource allocation to match needs.
Safety and Security

Develops and directly oversees effective safety and security control plans, policies, procedures and systems within established parameters and consistent with Museum goals and objectives.

Responsible for coordination of training security staff, and other personnel (as appropriate) in safety and security awareness as well as security policies, procedures and work routines.

Develops, implements and reviews security policy related to the maintenance and control of facility access by staff and other individuals, including keys and security system controls.

As designated Safety Officer, develops, implements and reviews safety policies and procedures for the Museum to ensure management and staff are maintaining compliance with established safety practices.
Qualifications

Bachelors degree, preferably in fields of experience, required. A master's degree or professional qualification in engineering is preferred.

Minimum 7 years of experience overseeing and directing building and grounds maintenance at a large, multi-acre facility.

Minimum 5 years of experience in all aspects related to overseeing and directing a security department preferred.

Experience with reviewing building plans and schematic drawings and plans, working with contractors and Museum leadership related to projects.

Experience with security related to the public and/ or collections management highly desirable.

Computer requirements include knowledge and application in email, and Microsoft Office suite of products including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Demonstrated ability in creative problem solving related to facility maintenance and repair and security.

Flexibility to work some weekday evenings and weekends as needed to meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. Good near and distant vision required. Ability to hear the conversational voice. Moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature. Ability to move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
