What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mosquito Control Technician position at Bismarck, City of (ND)?
Perform mosquito control activities and surveillance to minimize the impact of mosquito-spread diseases such as West Nile Virus. This is a seasonal position. Working hours are typically 4:45 am-11 am, Monday-Friday.• Set up and maintain mosquito traps.
• Performs the weekly collection of mosquito trap contents and delivers a portion to the North Dakota Department of Health laboratory.
• Determine the sex and species of mosquitoes and enters data into records system.
• Performs mosquito control activities such as treating water with mosquito larvicide and applying mosquito adulticide in public areas.
• Load and unload pesticide. Triple washes pesticide containers prior to disposal.
• Clean, wash, and maintain mosquito equipment, including vehicles.
• Maintain mosquito storage space.
• Performs other duties of a comparable level/type as required.
• Performs related duties.• High School diploma or GED. Must be at least 18 years of age at date of hire.
• Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver's license. Must achieve certification from the Burleigh County Extension Officer in the following programs: Core, Right of Way, and Public Health.• Ability to use a microscope.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to follow instructions, especially those on pesticide labels.
• Ability to use Microsoft applications and GIS.
• Ability to record and maintain accurate records.
