What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mosquito Control Technician position at City of Bismarck?
Job Description
Perform mosquito control activities and surveillance to minimize the impact of mosquito-spread diseases such as West Nile Virus. This is a seasonal position. Working hours are typically 4:45 am-11 am, Monday-Friday.
Examples of Duties
- Set up and maintain mosquito traps.
- Performs the weekly collection of mosquito trap contents and delivers a portion to the North Dakota Department of Health laboratory.
- Determine the sex and species of mosquitoes and enters data into records system.
- Performs mosquito control activities such as treating water with mosquito larvicide and applying mosquito adulticide in public areas.
- Load and unload pesticide. Triple washes pesticide containers prior to disposal.
- Clean, wash, and maintain mosquito equipment, including vehicles.
- Maintain mosquito storage space.
- Performs other duties of a comparable level/type as required.
- Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED. Must be at least 18 years of age at date of hire.
- Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver's license. Must achieve certification from the Burleigh County Extension Officer in the following programs: Core, Right of Way, and Public Health.

- Ability to use a microscope.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow instructions, especially those on pesticide labels.
- Ability to use Microsoft applications and GIS.
- Ability to record and maintain accurate records.
