General Purpose:  The Vice President Operations is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for overseeing construction management, facilities & fleet, physical security for all branches and work locations, and financial equipment.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the strategic construction and maintenance of credit union branch facilities, ensuring the branches we have are efficiently built and operated, while meeting the needs of our membership.
  • Develop and manage the operations budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources. Analyze costs, activities, operations, and forecast data to determine departmental progress towards stated goals. Assist with presenting reports to leaders and executive team when applicable.
  • Assist in the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of all facility, construction, security operations, and financial equipment, as well as policies and procedures to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient environment.
  • Read, interpret, review, and comply with all federal and state legislation pertaining to building construction and code, building upkeep, and physical security.  Maintain awareness of new trends and legal changes and advances in the financial industry and maintain professional affiliations. 
  • Collaborate with other leadership team members to align operational strategies with overall credit union goals.
  • Responsible for the overall management of all construction projects, including new branch construction or renovations. Ensure construction/renovation projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the physical security program.  This includes ensuring an effective physical security program.  Remains abreast of trends in financial institution physical security and fraudulent activities of threat actors. Acts as back-up to the Physical Security and Financial Equipment Officer in responding to alarms.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to manage project timelines and deliverables.
  • Oversee, in conjunction with in-house legal counsel, contract negotiations, revisions, and adherence by all parties. Oversee vendor relationships and contracts related to facility and physical security services.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with a variety of people, including management, engineers, architects, designers, contractors, vendors, tradespersons, and craft workers.
  • Manage and oversee the physical security program and strategies for the credit union, including maintaining security equipment, working with subcontractors to ensure all equipment is functioning properly and is in good repair.
  • Work with management to determine security needs and ensure sufficient security is provided in all locations. Maintain working relationship with law enforcement in the towns where branches are located.
  • Responsible for working with internal and external resources to create training that addresses physical security needs and changes in security trends. 
  • Responsible for managing the inventory of financial equipment at each credit union location ensuring equipment is in good working condition.  Remain up to date on equipment enhancements and changing trends related to financial equipment usage.  Work with internal stakeholders to understand equipment needs.
  • Responsible for managing and directing people and/or resources with fairness and consistency to meet departmental goals. Promote teamwork and encourage process improvement, while creating a positive work environment where employees feel recognized and valued. Responsible for evaluating employees, determining talents and development opportunities, and working with employees to improve performance, enhance skills, or create loyalty to the credit union. Conduct timely employee performance appraisals and coaching and effectively resolve employee issues and performance concerns.

 

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all security regulations and standards.
  • Remain current on changes within the legal, regulatory, economic, competitive, and technology environments that may affect the operations function.  Implement procedures as needed that are in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations. 
  • Assist Chief Administrative Officer with respect to recommendations for hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, performance appraisals, training and development, and interpretation of credit union rules and policies for department personnel.  Conduct all personnel functions in accordance with applicable statutes (e.g., EEO, OSHA, Fair Labor, etc.).
  • Assure the development of individual and department plans and budgets that are consistent with the strategic plan and overall budget.
  • Work closely with other department management personnel to ensure that the overall operation of the Credit Union runs smoothly.  Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with BHFCU staff and management.
  • Perform specific and delegated duties as assigned by the Chief Administrative Officer.

Job Qualifications (Education/Experience):

Education: Job requires a four-year college level of language, math and reasoning skills. 

Experience: Five years’ experience in a related field with equal responsibilities is acceptable.  Formal training should be supplemented with continuing education.

Work Environment/Physical Activities

Must be on-call to address security alarms, delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at a jobsite or with security matters.

Occasional travel to one of BHFCU’s branch locations or attendance at community events may be required.

Physical Requirements

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must by capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.

Mental and/or Emotional Requirements

Must be able to perform job functions with supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations with extreme accuracy. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines/requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on confidential matters.
