Job Summary:
The Structural Steel Estimator is responsible for analyzing project specifications, preparing accurate cost estimates, and developing competitive bids for structural steel fabrication and erection projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of structural steel construction, blueprints, and industry standards, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review project drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Solicit and analyze quotes from vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, and fabrication teams to ensure accurate and efficient estimating.
- Identify potential project risks, constructability challenges, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain and update pricing databases and cost history records for accurate estimating.
- Prepare and submit bid proposals in accordance with project deadlines.
- Communicate with clients, general contractors, and suppliers to clarify project requirements and address any inquiries.
- Assist in contract negotiation and pre-construction planning as needed.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in structural steel estimating, fabrication, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel components, fabrication processes, and construction methodologies.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and contract documents.
- Experience with estimating software such as Tekla EPM (Fabsuite), Bluebeam, or similar programs.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Knowledge of AISC, AWS, and other industry standards is a plus.
