Summary
The Director of Finance and Advancement at Blessing House shall have executive-level responsibility for all financial and business relations aspects of this non-profit agency. The Director will also lead and manage overall advancement efforts ensuring financial sustainability while supporting organizational growth. This includes strategic planning, donor relations and relationship building. The Director of Finance and Advancement shall report to and assist the Executive Director in all aspects of the agency.
Following the agency’s mission, “Blessing House serves as a safety net for families in crisis by providing a safe shelter for children and support for their family,”this position requires a high level of discretion and confidentiality. The ideal candidate will reflect the values of the organization while managing finances and coordinating public engagement efforts with the Executive Director and Development Team.
The Director of Finance and Advancement shall have complete oversight, with Executive Director and Board of Director’s concurrence, of the following:
a) All financial planning, financial reporting, annual budgets
b) Governmental compliance including reporting and participation in routine audits
c) Risk management oversight
d) HR/benefit oversight with the Executive Director
e) Sound financial acquisition, use and maintenance of organization assets
f) Advancement responsibilities including grant management, fundraising and donor cultivation
Financial Duties/Responsibilities· Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
· Responsible for bookkeeping and accounting functions including recording of receipts, disbursements, and payroll and account reconciliations.
· Manages preparing business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.
· Directs and supports the production of periodic financial reports and ensures that the reported results comply with accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
· Prepares, ensures and supports tax filings throughout the year
· Audits accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinates with outside auditors and provides the necessary information for the annual external audit.
· Presents recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
· Coordinates and responds to communications from employees relating to HR matters
· Implements and oversees organization retirement plan
· Provides financial analysis emphasizing capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
· Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
· Supports and oversees sound financial acquisition, use and maintenance of all organizational assets
Advancement Duties/Responsibilities
· Develop and direct the implementation of a strategic plan for fundraising and donor relations
· Identify and cultivate potential donors and funding sources
· Prepare grant proposals and manage grant relationships
· Ensure that all fundraising activities are conducted ethically and in accordance with regulations
· Help coordinate fundraising activities
· Participate in organization strategic planning
· Coordinate marketing and communications with Development Staff/Team
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills.
· Proficient in accounting software
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
· Familiarity with Donor Management Software a plus (DonorPerfect)
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration required; experience working within a non-profit organization is a plus.
· Eight years or more of related experience is required.
· Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
· Thorough and working demonstrated knowledge of standard accounting software programs (Quickbooks Online) and experience with 3rd party payroll and tax programs.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
