What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Aide position at Bloodworks NW?
Help save every day! Bloodworks NW has an exciting opening for a Laboratory Aide in our Seattle location. This position is responsible for providing exceptional non-technical laboratory support for our Immunohematology Reference Laboratory staff. Excellent customer service skills are essential as this position has frequent contact with our hospital and patient care partners.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
Answer customer phone line as needed, and triage as appropriate.
Contact customers to obtain data missing from test requisitions.
Perform data entry into all applicable laboratory information systems; assure accuracy and maintain competency.
Process, catalog, and aliquot donor plasma and reagent red cells for use in Immunohematological testing, i.e. antigen typing and antibody identification.
Manage inventory, order, and handle the receipt of incoming samples, reagents, and supplies.
Arrange local and regional transportation of licensed blood products by coordinating with the Bloodworks Transportation Department and external transportation services.
Prepare testing records for permanent storage.
Perform periodic cleaning and organization of equipment, supply storage areas, and work areas.
Recognize situations in which management and/or Technologists should be consulted.
Comply with all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as written.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two years post-high-school education or associate's degree in the science-related discipline. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Relevant work experience in n laboratory environment and familiarity with medical terminology are strongly preferred.
SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS include, but are not limited to:
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.), internet use, and familiarity with database operations.
Strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to work with a high level of accuracy, effectively multi-tasking and prioritizing workload to meet deadlines and produce results.
Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to effectively proofread technical documents and apply proper grammar.
Ability to work under stress, handling interactions with staff and the public using excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, judgment, tact, and diplomacy. Experience in handling confidential, sensitive, and/or patient-related materials.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The position requires extensive close work and extensive computer work.
The ability to remain on task amid multiple audio and visual distractions is required.
This position is full-time and requires weekend work.
Shift: Monday through Friday 7 am to 3:30 pm
