PRACTICE OVERVIEW:
Bloom Family Eye Surgeons through its owned and affiliated practices is a leading provider of comprehensive medical and surgical eye care in Ohio. As a physician-led and physician-owned, we offer complete medical eye examinations by specialists in the field of ophthalmology, including the diagnosis, management and treatment of eye diseases featuring in-house surgery in our state-of-the-art Surgery Center. Our Optometric Eye Clinic offers the diagnosis, management and treatment of a wide range of eye diseases, including a wide range of eyewear.
POSITION SUMMARY:
A scheduler coordinates daily patient schedules and manages internal calendars for Bloom Family Eye Surgeons. The scheduler is often the first point of contact for a patient and gives the first impression of our facility. Core duties involve excellent customer service, answering incoming phone calls, coordinating with patients or other external parties, arranging appointments as per physician template and assisting in basic clerical duties.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Completes timely and effective follow-up on patients to be scheduled or rescheduled.
- Schedules patient appointments under the guidelines of the physician's template.
- Answers incoming calls to the facility with high quality customer service, maintaining a clear and courteous communication.
- Verifies patient demographics, including insurance coverage, at time of scheduling appointment.
- Is proficient in using NextGen electronic health record for scheduling, management of the work queue and research for each patient needing scheduled.
- Initiates New Patient Packet to be sent to patients prior to their first visit.
- Communicates changes in a physician's template.
- Adheres to HIPPA guidelines.
- Maintains accurate and updated scheduling notes, special procedure notes and applies this to obtain necessary information to complete scheduling tasks.
DESIRED TECHNICAL AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in healthcare or patient scheduling
- Familiar with NextGen and verifying patient and insurance demographics
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a large volume and fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of commercial and government healthcare billing regulations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to details
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Maintain high level of patient confidentiality to ensure compliance with HIPPA regulations.
