    Position Summary:

    As a member of the School Counseling Department, the counselor will develop, implement, and assess school counselor programs that improve student outcomes. The school counselor will lead, advocate, and collaborate to promote equity and access for all students by connecting their school counseling program to the school’s academic mission and school improvement plan. They uphold the ethical and professional standards of ASCA and implement the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program that supports the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students.
    • This position reports to the Building Principal
    • This is a Full Time (182 Day Calendar and 8 extended days), benefits eligible position.
    • The starting salary for this position is $51,154. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
    • Staff in their first or second year of total service as a teacher are eligible to participate in a new teacher induction stipend of $1,250 for 50 hours of approved training outside of the school day.
    • Fully certified staff with more than two years of experience teaching in a Missouri Public School may be eligible to participate in the Career Ladder Program and may earn $1,500-$5,000 for approved work outside the school day.
    Essential Functions:
    • Implement the district school counseling curriculum.
    • Implements the MO DESE School Counseling Program.
    • Supports the academic, career, and development of all social/ emotional development through the delivery of Missouri School Counseling Curriculum, individual student planning, responsive services, and system support.
    • Upholds ASCA School Ethical and Professional Standards.
    • Assists students to apply academic achievement strategies.
    • Helps students manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills.
    • Assists individual student academic planning and goal setting.
    • Conducts school counseling classroom lessons based on MO Learning Standards for School Counseling
    • Provides short-term counseling to students, individual and group.
    • Supplies information on referrals for long-term support
    • Collaborates with families’/teachers’/ administrators/ community for student success.
    • Advocates for students at individual education plan meetings and other student-focused meetings
    • Provides data analysis to identify student issues, needs, and challenges.
    • Acting as a systems change agent to improve equity and access, achievement, and opportunities for all students.
    • Attendance is required at some school events held outside of school hours.
    Other Functions:
    • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
    Qualification Requirements:

    Education/Experience/Certificates:
    Master’s Degree in School Counseling. Meet Missouri state certification/licensure standards.
    Teacher experience preferred. School Counseling experience preferred.

    Language Skills:
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Mathematical Skills:
    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Other Skills and Abilities:
    Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on program and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents, skill in oral and written communication.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk.     Background Check:
